Fans of the classic horror comedy anthology Creepshow can purchase a new limited edition remastered 4K Blu-ray. Creepshow’s limited edition comes in a suitably creepy yet humorous steel book box. The new version was released this month, but is already on sale at Amazon and Walmart for $33 (originally $40). “Creepshow,” directed by George Romero and written by novelist Stephen King, was originally released in 1982 and spawned a series that has grown in recent years thanks to the anthology show “Shudder” and a series The series enjoyed a resurgence in popularity with the release of new comic books. The original film is still one of the best of the lot – Shudder’s series is pretty good, though – and the film still holds up well over 40 years later.

Creepshow Limited Edition comes with 4K Blu-ray and standard 1080p Blu-ray. The film was remastered in 4K using the original camera negatives. Both discs are packed with special features, including audio commentary with George Romero, a roundtable about the making of Creepshow, and more behind-the-scenes content. You can find the full list of special features at the bottom of this article.
“Creepshow” is a horror-comedy mashup that pays homage to classic comics like “Tales from the Crypt” and “Fear the Ghost”. Rather than telling one long story, this two-hour anthology film contains five different vignettes. Stories include a murdered man returning from the dead, a mysterious meteor falling on a remote farm, and an army of cockroaches hunting an entomophobic man.
Stephen King made his screenwriting debut with “Creepshow,” and two of the five stories are based on his short stories. Creepshow was influenced by comic books, and King adapted the film into a graphic novel form the same year the film premiered. Many adaptations of King’s novels in comic and graphic novel form are created by other writers, such as the newly released Sleeping Beauty: Deluxe Remastered Edition , but Creepshow’s graphic novel was created by King. The book is still in print and is only $15 on Amazon.
More Creepshow Blu-rays
This isn’t Creepshow’s first 4K release. Last year, Creepshow launched a new collector’s edition with the same bonus features. If you purchased this edition, the only reason to purchase the new edition is the steel book box. The Creepshow Collector’s Edition is $26 at Amazon and Walmart (regularly $37).
Creepshow’s popularity led to multiple sequels. George Romero wrote the screenplay for Creepshow 2 (1987), which contained three additional stories based on King’s short stories. Worth watching, but quite mediocre compared to the original. You can buy Creepshow 2 on standard Blu-ray for $15. The straight-to-DVD version of Creepshow 3, released in 2006, is probably only worth watching if you’re morbidly curious (which is bad).
Thankfully, Creepshow 3 isn’t the end of the series. The 2019 revival of the Tremors anthology series effectively captured the tone of the original. Shudder has produced 25 episodes for four seasons. Each episode contains two stories, each approximately 20 minutes long. All four seasons are available on Blu-ray.
Creepshow comics and books

Shude’s series also led to a revival of the print version of Creepshow. Two young adult (12+) Creepshow novels, “The Taker” and “The Cursed,” are available for $10 each.
There’s also an ongoing comic anthology series written and drawn by big names in the industry, including Garth Ennis and Stephen King’s eldest son Joe Hill. As a child, Hill appeared in the prologue and epilogue of the original Creepshow film, and more than 40 years later, he created an official Creepshow comic called Joe Hill’s Wolverton Station.
Creepshow Volumes 1 and 2 each contain 5 comics, and the paperbacks are available on Amazon for $15 or less. You can get all 12 Creepshow comics released to date on Kindle for just $25.
