George R.R. Martin, author of the book game of Thrones novels and fire and blood spinoffs of the HBO series Dragon House Yes, there’s a lot to be said for the big changes being made to the show. September 4, Martin Published an article on his blog It’s called “Beware the Butterflies,” which details his misgivings about a specific scene in Season 2 Popular D. However, shortly after publishing the post, Martin deleted it entirely.
According to the post, You can read it in archived form hereMartin raised serious doubts about this approach Dragon House Show creators change up moment fans know well fire and blood “Blood and cheese.” in the programQueen Helena is accosted in her castle by two intruders, who demand that she indicate which of her two young children is a boy, ostensibly so they can murder the heir to the Iron Throne. In the novels, Helana actually has three children, Jaehaerys, Jaehaera, and Maelor (Maelor does not appear in the show, although Martin claimed in a now-deleted blog post that he was told he would appear in season three ). When Blood and Cheese (as they are called in the novel) break in, Helena first offers her life, then reluctantly points out the youngest Mailer to the killer. But the intruder realized that she was avoiding naming Jaehaerys, the next in line to the throne, and killed him anyway, and Cheese whispered to Merle that his mother had chosen to kill him before leaving the castle.
Martin claimed that he had an argument with showrunner Ryan Condal about the change, but that the argument was brief and “not very heated,” and that he said Condal gave him enough assurances to trust him. This change is acceptable. “[He] There seemed to be practical reasons for doing this; they didn’t want to pick another child, especially a two-year-old,” Martin wrote. “Kids this young inevitably slow down production and have budget implications. Budgets have become an issue Dragon Houseit makes sense to save as much money as possible. Furthermore, Ryan assured me that we were not losing Prince Mele, just delaying his timing. Queen Helena could still give birth to him in season three, presumably at the end of season two. This made sense to me, so I withdrew my objection and acquiesced to the change.

Although Martin ultimately “still [loved]Despite these changes, he had a bigger problem with what he called the outright removal of Mailer, writing that “sometime between the initial decision to remove Mailer, a significant change occurred. The prince’s birth was no longer It’s just been delayed until season three that Aegon and Helena’s younger son will never appear.
He then mentioned the “butterfly effect,” a philosophical concept whereby something as small as the flapping of a butterfly’s wings can, over time, have a significant impact on seemingly unrelated things . Martin then warned readers about spoilers, writing: “If you’ve never read fire and blood Maybe it doesn’t matter because all I’m going to “spoil” here are things that happen in the books that may never happen in the series. I’ll give you a spoiler warning of my own, as there are major storylines in the novel right now.

exist fire and bloodShortly after Prince Mele’s death, Helena committed suicide. Because she was so beloved by the common people, when rumors spread that it was Queen Rhaenyra who had killed her (by this time Rhaenyra had taken over King’s Landing), rather than Helena jumping from the window of the Red Keep, King’s Landing’s People poured into the streets demanding justice for their beloved ruler. “This was the beginning of the end for Rhaenyra’s rule over the city, culminating in the Storm of the Dragon’s Lair and the rise of the Shepherd Mob, driving Rhaenyra to flee the city and return to Dragonstone… and her Death,” Martin wrote.

He continued: “Mailer himself means very little. He is a child, has no lines, and does nothing but die…but where, when, how, that Do matter. Losing Mailer weakens the ending of the blood and cheese sequence…it weakens Helena’s motivation for suicide, which in turn sends thousands of people into the streets and alleys screaming that they were “murdered” The Queen delivers justice. I guess, none of these are necessary…but all of them do serve a purpose, they all help tie the storyline together so one thing follows another in a logical and convincing way. “
Martin then ended his post on an ominous note, warning that “if Dragon House Continue to consider some changes for seasons three and four…”
I find it interesting that Martin was never so overtly vicious about the ending of the film. game of Throneswhich not only deviated from his source material but created a new storyline entirely since he had not yet completed the mainline novel. What I find even more interesting is that he issued such a harsh takedown I believe this series is being adapted in the right way. But maybe Martin did what many of us who end up online do, tweet it and delete it after figuring it out a bit. We will see.
