FROM 5 Ways to Bring Change to Season 3

If you’re like me, you’re counting down the days until FROM returns for Season 3.

It’s been a while since we’ve been back to that scary town, watching things fall apart until Boyd’s last-minute save essentially saved the town from succumbing to something that haunted them and kept them awake anything.

Season 2 ends with Tabitha being pushed out of the lighthouse and back into the real world as the town enters recovery mode, leaving her family in the dark.

    (Chris Reardon/Epix)

This is one of the craziest seasons you’ll ever see.

With the new season upon us, here’s another chance to get answers.

It’s also a pivotal moment for the series, which has a well-developed premise and a loyal fanbase that will grow impatient if it doesn’t move the story forward.

Audiences are fickle. They enjoy the thrill of the chase but don’t want to end up disappointed.

As FROM prepares to begin production on another ten-episode series, there’s a lot at stake.

This could be the make or break moment of the series, I personally enjoyed its run but some fans found it a bit lackluster.

If you’re one of those people who’s less than impressed, there’s plenty of time for this series to turn things around.

So I’m going to explore some of the ways this series can change the future.

Make monsters the biggest threat again

    Monster Confrontation - Season 2 Episode 5Monster Confrontation - Season 2 Episode 5
    (MGM+/Chris Reardon)

The premise of FROM is that the characters live in a small town that they can’t leave because they have no contact with the outside world and monsters come out at night, ready to tear them to pieces.

In FROM Season 2, the series stops being monsters as the season progresses, with cicadas and music boxes becoming things to defeat.

It’s not a bad decision as it ties into the beginning of the season and what Boyd goes through when escaping the forest, but the monster should always be the number one antagonist.

Essentially, everything starts and ends with them because they’re the real big bad of the whole thing, and the series would do well to remember that.

It might sound weird to talk about changing the series and then basically say stick with the status quo, but it’s one of those times when these monsters come out of the shadows with creepy smiles and pleasantries, just waiting for someone to make a mistake The most disturbing thing you’ll ever see on TV

Expanding terror doesn’t spoil anything, but FROM cannot forget its roots!

Don’t drag out Tabitha’s newfound reality

    Hurt Tabitha - Season 2 Episode 5Hurt Tabitha - Season 2 Episode 5
    (Chris Reardon/MGM+)

Tabitha’s appearance in a hospital bed after the boy in white pushes her out of the window is jaw-dropping, and we’re heading into the season with absolutely no idea what any of this means.

Has she really returned to the real world?

How much time has passed since her family disappeared? What part of the world is she in?

    Is this true?

Tabitha’s journey is one of the more interesting things to consider, and how the forest might begin to throw people into the outside world.

Now with two separate entities to consider, the town and Tabitha’s new location, hopefully it won’t take the writers too long to answer some of the more pressing questions.

Whether Tabitha is just dreaming and is actually unconscious in the woods, or she’s really just back somewhere in America, there shouldn’t be any delay.

Exchange Information - from Season 2, Episode 10Exchange Information - from Season 2, Episode 10
    (MGM+/Chris Reardon)

Let us know what is true and then take the story from there.

There are enough mysteries there to keep us hooked (more on that later), and solving one of the biggest mysteries, the fact that you can escape that town and live to tell the story, should stand on its own.

It should be exciting to watch her try to get back to her family, and it should be equally exciting to see how Jim, Julie, and Ethan cope with her absence.

There are a lot of stories to mine here, and they would be better off getting right into them rather than spending too much time asking us to piece them together.

Tabitha succeeded. She won’t rest until she has her family back. So, let’s see how she does it.

    Introducing some new pairings

Jade and Victor working together - from Season 2, Episode 5Jade and Victor working together - from Season 2, Episode 5
    (MGM+/Chris Reardon)

FROM has a huge team and they do a great job of communicating the story and keeping everyone involved in the overall narrative, which is challenging.

But I saw Jim and Kenny working together in the trailer, and it got me thinking: Have we ever seen these two spend significant time together?

Even if we had, it wouldn’t be enough to make a lasting impression.

I’d love to see these two people who may not have much in common on the surface collaborate.

Will they work well together? Or will they butt heads?

Are their ideas and theories consistent? Or do they approach things completely differently?

It’s a small thing, but it’s still exciting to see new character dynamics.

Remember when Kenny and Ellis teamed up in FROM Season 2 Episode 3?

It’s interesting to see Boyd’s biological son and fake son working together because it’s something we don’t get to see very often.

Donna and Elgin team up - from Season 2, Episode 10Donna and Elgin team up - from Season 2, Episode 10
    (MGM+/Chris Reardon)

Now that the lines between towns and colonial homes are basically non-existent, it would be nice to see everyone blending together more.

Boyd and everyone have subplots, but what about some of the Jade and Fatima stuff?

It’s going to be incredibly random, but it’s going to be fresh.

Maybe Donna and Christie will team up and do something who knows what, but I know they’ll do it perfectly.

Let’s switch gears a bit and see what hidden gems there are.

Expand and explain some of the larger mysteries

    Boyd Search - Season 2 Episode 10Boyd Search - Season 2 Episode 10
    (MGM+/Chris Reardon)

As I said before, FROM has a lot of mysteries to unravel.

Why are you trapped in the city? Why are you trapped in the city? Where do monsters come from?

What does Angokui mean? What does the symbol Jade often sees mean?

I could go on, but you get the idea.

One mystery after another has been puzzling viewers since the series premiered, and now it’s time we start getting some answers, or at least a better understanding of some of these lingering questions, before the series inevitably introduces A new horror series.

Dance Between Two - From Season 2, Episode 6.Dance Between Two - From Season 2, Episode 6.
    (MGM+/Chris Reardon)

I worry that the show will get stuck in a loop at times, and I worry that we’ll become frustrated by the lack of explanation.

There does come a point when you not only lose patience but also lose interest in things that don’t pay any dividends.

FROM had a killer premise and when it came out, there was nothing else like it on TV.

However, one of the most important things that must happen is further discovery and information.

Introducing one more mystery before solving the various unresolved mysteries would be a huge mistake.

Don’t be afraid to shock your audience

Except for themselves - Season 2 Episode 1Except for themselves - Season 2 Episode 1
    (MGM+)

This should go without saying, but I’m going to say it anyway.

It’s been a minute since we’ve had a truly shocking death.

I’m talking about the shocking level of Father Carter. While I’m starting to like the main ensemble, you should never feel like anyone is safe on this show.

The town is dangerous and scary, and if we don’t believe that anyone could die at any moment, then their writers have lost the plot.

I hate to see anyone go, but this series is a great reminder of how scary it can be.

    A Struggle - from Season 2 Episode 2A Struggle - from Season 2 Episode 2
    (MGM+/Chris Reardon)

Coming from a fanatic, the floor is now yours!

In the comments, tell me what you want to see from this season and what you’re most excited about.

I’ll be back all season long talking to you about this!

You can watch the film on MGM+ when it premieres on September 22nd.
