Formula 1 has shown footage from the Dutch Grand Prix qualifying session at the Zandvoort circuit this weekend, captured by a gyroscopic camera system mounted above the helmet of weekend race winner Lando Norris.
F1 has been testing the camera since 2022 and it was designed to emphasize the exaggerated banking angles at Zandvoort, but it was reportedly unable to broadcast it despite using it there last year motorsport.
Dino Leone, director of onboard camera operations for Formula 1, explained in a recent video that the cameras can be dynamically adjusted to increase or decrease the gyroscopic effect. Formula 1 is using the camera at some races in 2023, such as those in Brazil and Japan, and plans to use it more frequently this year.
