Ford and TXU Energy, one of the largest electric providers in Texas, form a partnership so customers can get Free electric car charging at home. Owners of new Ford electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids who sign up for TXU’s free electric vehicle mileage program can receive a full credit on their utility bill if they charge within TXU’s free 18-hour window.
Ford said in a press release that its goal is to “educate Texans about the benefits of driving an electric vehicle.” This “unprecedented” offer will incentivize customers to charge during off-peak hours. Free hours are from 7:00 pm to 1:00 pm the next day. (Charging at other times costs the same as any other electricity use in your home.)
in an email edgeFord PR representative Eddie Fernandez wrote that the program “is currently planned through 2026 and is intended to be ongoing.” The program is currently only for Ford customers but may be expanded to other automakers in the future, Fernandez said, confirming that a Lincoln plug-in hybrid is included in the deal.
To receive the free charging offer, you will need to allow TXU to access your Ford plug-in vehicle’s charging information through the My Ford Pass app, which will then be linked to your electricity provider’s billing system.
If you own a 2021 or newer Ford F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, Escape PHEV or plug-in Lincoln and live in a Texas county covered by TXU, you can purchase one on your electric provider’s website register. As a bonus, Ford will also send you a $100 rewards card immediately, while TXU will send you $250 on your program anniversary.
