If you’ve been paying attention to the Paris Olympics lately, and consider yourself a big fan of action RPGs from years past, you probably pricked up your ears at last night’s Art Swim competition. That’s because the Japanese team competing in the event decided to pair their performance with a song from NieR: Automata.

As viewers noticed last night, the Japanese artistic swimming performance was paired with “Beautiful Song” from the official soundtrack of the competition. After the photo was posted to Twitter, it was noticed by OST’s lead singer Emi Evans, as well as Yoko Taro himself, both of whom expressed their appreciation for the Olympic cameo.

The Japanese team finished fourth, unfortunately missing out on a medal by just six points. Still, it’s a great show to watch. Come for the Neil soundtrack, stay for the sports! The champion of this competition was the Chinese team, the American team won the silver medal, and the Spanish team won the bronze medal.

Each team consists of eight swimmers who must swim consistently to planned movements and music, and are scored based on the complexity of the movements, the technicality of the performance, and the transitions between different movements. After the performance, the judges scored each team and decided the final ranking.

This is by no means the first time an Olympian has shown a love for video games. The beloved American pommel horse athlete was revealed to be a bit of a Rocket League enthusiast Spanish bronze medalist Pau Echaniz lost two League of Legends ranked matches before winning the award, leading to gold medalist Noah Noah Lyles reveals his love for Crack.
