Joel Schumacher’s Flat lining is a cult classic that won’t die. It’s already lived on in the form of a 2017 reboot…existence, but there’s clearly more blood to be drawn from this rock. But this isn’t another movie or a transfer to television, but a third attempt at the franchise in the form of a book.
Specifically, author J.D. Barker (best known as outcast and behind closed door) is writing a novel flat line resurrection. The main difference is that it will be based on the film’s original script written at the time by Peter Filardi, who reacquired the rights a few years ago. According to Deadline, Buck’s pitch for the material’s more paranormal focus was enough to win over Firadi, and it’s apparently so strong that film rights are already in the pipeline. In a press release, Filardi reiterated his confidence in Buck, saying the book will “reinvigorate Flat lining A new generation of franchises.
Buck said in his own statement that the concept of the film “has always fascinated me. I am honored to have the opportunity to explore these themes of death, aftermath and the unknown in a novel form. Fans can expect a story that respects the spirit of the original while also We’ll scare you to death by venturing into new, uncharted territory.
