Fede Álvarez Highly anticipated Alien: Romulus The 20th Century Pictures film was finally revealed to the public after its world premiere in Los Angeles on Monday night, and first reactions are already taking to social media.

Part 8 of the long run alien The series is set between the events of Ridley Scott’s 1979 alien and James Cameron’s 1986 sequel alien. Romulus It follows young colonists who arrive on an abandoned space station and encounter the horrors of an alien creature that is the enduring star of the series. The film stars Kailee Spaeny, David Jonson, Archie Renault, Isabella Merced and Spike Finn.

The film was produced by Scott, Michael Prussia and Walter Hill.

Romulus Originally planned for release on Hulu, critically acclaimed by Dan Trachtenberg predator prequel, prey (2022), but the studio wisely turned to drama as principal photography began. “When we started shooting it, the studio was like, ‘Fuck, we’re going to get into theaters with this,'” Alvarez told us. hollywood reporter In an in-depth interview in March.

Romulus Opens widely in theaters on August 16.

Full review though Romulus Opening in theaters Wednesday, read on for the first reactions to the film following Monday night’s premiere.

Alien: Romulus: Has all the great hallmarks you’d expect from an Alien movie, but never feels like it’s pandering to nostalgia or fan service…or even going in a crazy new direction. Fede Alvarez and the cast just delivered the best movie of the summer.

    — Boris Kit (@Borys_Kit) August 13, 2024

Alien: Romulus is absolutely gorgeous and pays homage to every movie that came before it in some way. Carly Spaeny and David Jonson are excellent leads, and the alien effects are very satisfying. The ending will be divisive, but I love it. Big fan of this.

Alien: Romulus does a great job.

Full of horror, thrillers and visuals, the film is creative but never descends into gratuitous gore or gore. It emulates the original Alien movie very well.

I had to pick my jaw up off the floor during the third act. That’s crazy. Wow. pic.twitter.com/0XVQsx2tkQ

Alien: Romulus relies heavily on its horror origins to create a relentless, visceral thrill ride that starts slow and builds in intensity until it leaves you breathless by the end. It lacks any thematic depth and contains so many winks, nods and… moments. pic.twitter.com/QSKZdj6cwm

#AlienRomulus This was the first time I felt scared while watching an Alien movie. Rain, played by Cailee Spaeny, is the perfect character to follow on this journey, and with the twists and turns of Fede Álvarez, you never know where Romulus is going to go. The third act is really wild. I dig… pic.twitter.com/vEaiz5966B

    — Rachel Leishman (@RachelLeishman) August 13, 2024

Alien: Romulus takes a while to get going, but turns into a real horror in the third act, and bears some similarities to Fede Alvarez’s previous films. Of course, some nice surprises and callbacks. Facehuggers give me the creeps, but that’s because I have spiders.#AlienRomulus pic.twitter.com/FHDWK8002y

    — Joey Magidson (@JoeyMagidson) August 13, 2024

“Alien: Romulus” is mostly a gratuitous nostalgia drama that remixes what came before, with some occasional strong kicks, but in a series known for its psychosexual weirdness, it’s The safest, blandest, most boring entry in the series ever. i don’t like it pic.twitter.com/n3RtpYvXgJ

—A particularly dangerous man named Brendan (@metaplexmovies) August 13, 2024

There’s a lot I like about Alien: Romulus – there are some really creative moments in the first two acts that I really enjoyed.

However, the ending changed a lot, which didn’t work for me and left me feeling underwhelmed.

However, a creative but flawed Alien movie:

“Alien: Romulus” is the best Alien movie since “Alien.”

The perfect bridge between the sci-fi horror of Scott’s original and the thrilling action of Cameron’s sequel.

Each scene gets more exciting, culminating in a thrilling final scene that proves Fede Alvarez has never… pic.twitter.com/coJcpafZsT

Alien: Romulus is exciting, terrifying, awe-inspiring and unforgettable.

Fede Alvarez is one of my favorite directors and he did not disappoint.

    So disgusting. Very good.

    — Anna Klassen (@AnnaJKlassen) August 13, 2024

The alien Romulus was a curious man. There are effective scares, but each scene feels like a video game level, theme park ride intro, or Horror Nights maze. The character work didn’t impress me at all either, and I’m someone who gets labeled easily.

    This isn’t for me. pic.twitter.com/kRayfGuoR4

Fede Alvarez #AlienRomulus Rough, gripping, and gorgeously bleak (from the story to Olivares’ cinematography to Wallfish’s score). Innovatively delivering smart, savvy stuff that cleverly plays the hottest songs. Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson dominate. This rule! pic.twitter.com/kEuDZku2Oz

    — Courtney Howard (@Lulamaybelle) August 13, 2024

#AlienRomulus is a wild rollercoaster ride through the first six Alien films, using clips from all of them to tell a focused, mostly self-contained story filled with glorious gore and scares. As the plot progresses, it gets better and better, ending with a stunning third-act twist. pic.twitter.com/mY8Hkbe0gD

    — Germain Lussier (@GermainLussier) August 13, 2024

#AlienRomulus Keeps me on the edge of my seat in suspense. Fede Alvarez understood the task and passed the exam with flying colors. As a fan, I love the new elements and changes that are introduced. This breathed new life into the Alien franchise and is probably one of the best. pic.twitter.com/ZAt81ddIJa

    — Emmanuel (E-Man) Noisette (@EmansReviews) August 13, 2024

#AlienRomulus It’s about not breathing in space. Scott’s prequel and an annoying amalgamation of the first two. Fight desperately to find your identity. Sometimes it’s true (and it’s morbid and twisted), and sometimes it’s not, but Fede’s tactile suit gives us the grittiest, dirtiest entrance yet! pic.twitter.com/1NddrwWVtA

    — Griffin Schiller (@griffschiller) August 13, 2024

    #AlienRomulus F%&KIN is phenomenal!
Fede Alvarez deftly weaves a story that incorporates the best elements from all past films. The perfect balance of horror and action. Stunning visual effects! Spaeny and Jonsson were awarded MVP. And OMG Act III 🔥 Favorite movie of the year so far! pic.twitter.com/MrwDoVOblS

    — Chris Parker (@3CFilmss) August 13, 2024

#AlienRomulus It’s the sci-fi horror masterpiece we’ve been waiting for! @fedalvar takes the franchise back to its roots in the most horrific way possible. Every moment is tense and tense, it’s everything you want from an Alien movie and more. Best Alien Movies… pic.twitter.com/Lxv3rynRu1

    — Sean Tajpur (@Seantaj) August 13, 2024

#AlienRomulus is a rich, rich franchise game. Fede Álvarez controlled the atmosphere. There are some bad jump scares, unearned series callbacks, and an inconclusive final act, but there’s a lot to enjoy here, as it has exciting set pieces. David Jonson is an absolute standout. pic.twitter.com/s6RR0lxb96

    — Jeff Nelson (@SirJeffNelson) August 13, 2024

#AlienRomulus Becomes one of the best entries in the series.

A tense, terrifying and chaotic story built from extremely well executed technical sequences, making this experience even more unique.

The cast is great, the voices are crazy, it’s a must see in the theater. pic.twitter.com/OAd26aavSK

    — Hollywood Handle (@HollywoodHandle) August 13, 2024

#AlienRomulus It doesn’t revolutionize the formula, but it has two great secret weapons: Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson. Director Fede Alvarez returns the series to its horror roots with one of the most chilling final scenes of any Alien movie. pic.twitter.com/IfEH2qfpl7

    — Nicholas Spake (@NSpake) August 13, 2024

for me, #AlienRomulus Plays like a greatest hits collection from the series; there’s not much new here (except [REDACTED]& I love it! ! Great agile creature work, gorgeous sound + cinematography, Spaeny + Jonsson are rock solid. I’m so excited! pic.twitter.com/HH70K47Tsh
