Final Fantasy XVI producer pleads with fans not to get weird about mods ahead of PC release

Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida is asking fans not to create any “offensive or inappropriate” mods for the game ahead of its PC release later today. This means that you, yes you are reading this right now, are asked not to create anything vulgar or naughty. It doesn’t matter how handsome Clive is!

The request stems from an interview with PC Gamer, with Yoshida refusing to reveal any details to avoid provoking shameless modders into creating something he and Square Enix don’t want to see. However, one doesn’t need to be a mind reader to know what he’s talking about. No dick, guys. Yoshida would probably be very upset to see a naked Clive on his Twitter feed.

It may seem like an odd thing to specifically ask for, but the Final Fantasy PC community has a rich and storied history of bringing their creativity and sexuality into the lab for all kinds of sexy experiments. As with all games, these are generally among the more popular mods, but it’s also worth noting that more composed creators have a history of producing some pretty good stuff. Just look at Nexusmods for various cosmetic changes and more.

However, rude mods have directly led to developers taking action. Take Capcom as an example. The company has added anti-tampering DRM features to some games to prevent players from tampering with the content. As we all know, Street Fighter 6 became the center of attention after a naked Chun-Li model appeared midway through the game. The idea is that these things being circulated don’t make the game look better. Of course not to superiors, investors, etc. On the other hand, if the owners of the game want to see more of Clive’s bare chest, who does it hurt? The answer largely depends on what each player thinks, and they must make the decision themselves.

Still, Yoshida made his point clear. Whether it will have any impact on the popularity of such mods or how widely they spread will be answered in the coming weeks and months as Final Fantasy XVI comes to PC. What are your thoughts on this topic? Let us know below!
