NOTE: This Final Fantasy
Back in May, I wrote final fantasy 14 On the Steam Deck, covering how to run it, how it played, my thoughts on the game at the time, why it was worth playing, and more ahead of the big 7.0 graphics update Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn. Fast forward to today, Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn It’s been out for about a week now, and I’ve been playing it on the Steam Deck and Xbox Series X (including playing it remotely on my iPhone), and I’m impressed with the visual improvements and expansions so far. Please note that I’m not done yet Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn However, this is an ongoing review that will cover the expansion’s first dozen hours as well as more early areas that I’ve been testing with graphical updates.
I’m approaching this Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn This Steam Deck review is divided into two parts. The first part will cover how graphics updates work, look and feel on Steam Deck OLED. Part 2 will cover my thoughts Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn It in itself and that feeling I needed for a perfect summer vacation. No story spoilers Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn or the previous extension, but I’m covering NieR: Automata Raid my stress test, so keep this in mind if you’re going to avoid everything Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers as well as.
Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail Steam Deck Performance and Settings
If you have read my original work final fantasy 14 Steam Deck article, you saw how well the game ran back then. along with Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn Release and 7.0 Graphics Update, final fantasy 14 Overall it looks better than ever, but performance takes a hit. On similar settings, the game can now drop to 30 fps during busy boss battles, and going into first-person during a stress test even resulted in sub-30 fps. With the shadows turned down a bit, it does a good job of maintaining the target of 30fps or more. This is with dynamic resolution enabled.
I chose to play the game at 45fps, 90hz target. Before this graphic update, the busiest cities were typically dropping into the 30s, and the worst were in the 40s. I especially want to do as much stress testing as possible on new aircraft Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn In addition to reaching dense cities, you can also explore areas, check out raids, and play your fate using a host of particle effects. If the framerate only drops below 30fps in first-person mode in Raid, and stays at 30fps or above outdoors, things are looking good. I need to do more testing, but I think I can get Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn to around 45fps to hit the sweet spot of 45fps at 90hz. Note that I played at 800p in all of these tests and used a GE Proton 9-9. There are no external tools or mods to play with. I maxed out the frame rate from 45fps to see how high it could go, but when I played it outside of testing for this review, I stuck with 45fps at 90hz.
Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail graphics settings
I used a custom preset with LOD enabled, standard instant reflections, FXAA, normal lighting and grass quality, high parallax masking, high tessellation, glare off, show all shadows, shadow resolution (1024p or 512p (better) ), normal shadow cascade, strongest shadow softening, cast shadows set to minimum, 16x AF, normal texture resolution and dynamic resolution. I haven’t had time to do a similar raid with the lower presets to see what they look like, but I’m happy with the image quality here, at 30-45fps during the dozen or so hours I spent with the expansion pack. There are a dozen hours so more revisiting of previous areas and content.
Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail Story and Musical Impressions
I would classify myself as a more casual person final fantasy 14 Current players. I’ve played it on and off for years, first and foremost for the story and the music. Everything else is secondary, although I do enjoy playing with friends when the time zone matches. So far, Final Fantasy XIV: Forbidden City Still one of my favorites final fantasy Overall experience, not just specific experiences final fantasy 14. Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn At least for the first dozen hours I spent exploring, MSQing, and testing on the Steam Deck, it felt like I was on vacation. The new characters are colorful and my only real complaint is that there isn’t more voiced dialogue. I feel like it has fewer expansions and patches than previous ones. I haven’t tried a new job yet, just focusing on my Predator game. I will test as many of them as possible when I update this review in the future.
I’d like to highlight Soken and Co’s music here. final fantasy 14 Has one of my favorite game soundtracks I think Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn The music is incredible. This is probably my favorite normal combat theme in all the expansions, and so far I just love the vibe and culture in the music. I brought my acoustic guitar and whenever I listened to it on YouTube or watched a friend live stream, I would play along to the battle theme. I can’t wait to see how it evolves through the rest of the story. I’m angry I can’t buy it Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn The soundtrack already exists on iTunes or CD. Let it happen, Square Enix.
Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn on Xbox Series X
along with Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn After the update, the Xbox Series X and PS5 versions now support 120hz. This is great because I have VRR installed on my Xbox and can see changes in performance and metrics instantly on the monitor. I don’t usually look at these when I’m playing games normally, but since I was testing, I decided to take a look. I see games hitting over 100hz regularly, but also running below 60hz in some parts when running at 1440p. Running at 1080p (in-game) results in better overall performance. I ended up sticking with this when playing games on the Xbox Series X’s 1440p display. Other than that, I love how gorgeous the new location is Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn look. I’ll be interested to see how Xbox handles actual large-scale battles in later expansions. The screenshot above shows how one-word filters work on Xbox Series X, such as the Flying Cumulus mount. Still quite funny.
I also tested it via Xbox remote gaming and I couldn’t believe how poorly it ran compared to PS5 remote gaming. When my console was wired rather than wireless, I had to make sure I was close to the router to get a remotely playable experience on my phone. I think this has something to do with Xbox Remote Play working over the internet rather than locally, although both devices are on the same network, but disappointingly it doesn’t work like PS5 Remote Play whenever I test it Works the same.
Final Fantasy XIV login needs improvements on PC and PS5
This doesn’t have much bearing on the expansion or my review, but I wanted to make a special note of it. I noticed final fantasy 14 On Xbox, you can launch the game directly and log in and save your details. On PS5, it will save your username and password, but you will need to enter the OTP each time. On PC, you need to enter password and OTP every time. I don’t understand why all platforms can’t have the same login method. I hope this gets fixed as it’s very annoying to enter my password and OTP every time on the Steam Deck. It would be great if all platforms had a login system like the Xbox Series X version.
So far, Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn It was the summer break we all needed after the busy publishing season. At least I needed a break after spending so much time playing Path to Dawn, Shin Megami Tensei V: Revengeance, and still playing Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree. Final Fantasy XIV: Road to Dawn It looks great on Steam Deck and Xbox, sounds incredible, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. I just wish we could add more voice dialogue.
