FBI Director Christopher Wray said Wednesday that people who tried to assassinate former President Donald Trump searched online for “How far was Oswald from JFK?” a week before the rally shooting was reported New York Times.
Investigators recovered search records from a laptop connected to 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, referring to the 1963 murder of Lee Harvey Os. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy by Lee Harvey Oswald. “This search was clearly significant in terms of his mental state,” Wray said during a House Judiciary Committee hearing. “It appears that he signed up for the Butler rally that same day.”
It is reported NowRay said Crooks visited the rally site in Butler, Pennsylvania, twice on the morning of July 13. During the second visit, the gunman appeared to fly the drone over the exhibition grounds for about 11 minutes. According to CNBC, the drone is manufactured by DJI.
The FBI also hacked into the shooter’s phone last week, but his motives remain unclear. “Many of the common repositories did not yield anything noteworthy in terms of motivation or ideology,” Wray said.
