‘Beyond the Gate’ gets new title, plot, cast
Finally, we have big news about CBS’ first black soap opera in 35 years.
The show, formerly known as “The Gate,” has now been renamed “Beyond the Gate.” Perhaps the network didn’t want to give the impression that the show would center on the messy divorce between Bill and Melinda.
Regardless, today’s title change comes with the show’s first casting announcement.
Three daytime vets lead the way, Tamra Tunney (“Law & Order: SVU,” “As the World Turns”), Daphne Dupleix (“One Life to Live”) and Kara Mosley (“Brave and “Beautiful”) will host this historic project.
We also got the first official description of the show’s premise:
“‘Beyond the Gate’ takes place in the leafy Maryland suburbs outside Washington, D.C., and one of the wealthiest African-American counties in the country,” the synopsis reads.
“Here you’ll find a luxurious gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions.
“At the center of this community is the Dupree family, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the definition of black royalty.”
The show is produced by CBS Studios and the NAACP.
While there are certainly plenty of soap opera scandals, the show’s goal is to provide a positive image of black families – something that’s rare on television today.
Over to you, TV fanatics! Are you excited about this new addition to your daytime landscape?
