Terrorists hijacked a 747 plane bound for Washington, D.C., demanding the release of their imprisoned leader. Intelligence expert David Grant (Kurt Russell) suspects there’s another reason, and he soon becomes a reluctant member of a special commando team assigned to intercept planes and hijackers.

Movie review:
- Wuchak: **_Suspense at 33,000 Feet with Kurt Russell_**
- An intelligence analyst (Russell) inadvertently joins a Special Forces operation to save a Boeing 747-200 that has been hijacked by terrorists and then used to attack Washington, DC. Steven Seagal plays a mission commander, Halle Berry plays a flight attendant, and Oliver Platt plays an aerospace engineer, among other notable figures.
- “Execution” (1996) is a passenger plane crash film from the perspective of “Die Hard with a Vengeance” (1992) directed by the editor of “Die Hard with a Vengeance” (1990). I mention the latter because it’s very similar, except it happens in the air instead of an airport.
- I didn’t expect that I would like it because it’s basically “Die Hard” on a plane and I don’t think a worthwhile movie could have been made in such tight circumstances, but it works. Of course, many times the rescuers use high-tech equipment such as hidden cameras to strategize inside the airbus, but the creators respect the audience’s intelligence, and there are some innovative parts and great suspense.
- It’s clearly a prescient reference to 9/11, having been filmed six years before the infamous attacks.
- The film is 2 hours and 13 minutes long and was filmed at Norton Air Force Base, San Bernardino and Chino Airports in Southern California, the Mojave Desert (crash scene), and the Sierra Madre Mountains (home of the Chechen Mafia). The wedding kidnapping scene was filmed in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
