The Beat spoke with Lieberman about returning to Red Sonja.

Deanna Destito: You have a long history with Sonja. Why do you like coming back to her?
Luke Lieberman: I never left. I dabble in all publishing, but when I write something myself, it’s because I feel truly inspired. I had to tell a story to the world.
Destito: What can fans old and new expect from this new series?
Lieberman: A great Sonia story. Since the film involves young Sonia coming to terms with death, there’s a lot of bloodshed. And there’s an angsty, fiery, volatile teen who’s at war with her soul, trying to repair what she’s broken.

Destito: How does this story fit into the premise of Red Sonja so far?
Lieberman: this is a bookend The Birth of the She-Devil. There she murdered the Sultan of Turan (who deserved it), but now the country is dividing, with warlords and religious cults all trying to seize the throne.
Destito: How was it working with this creative team?
Lieberman: I waited until I found the right artist to write this article. I’m going to introduce a new character, Bloodless, who, Sonja, and the entire story deserves special attention. Alberto’s style is very unique and perfect for storytelling.

Destito: If you could have Sonia work with any character in any medium, who would it be and why?
Lieberman: I’ll throw her in game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings See how it turns out.
