As early as 2023, the Lego Group passed a scientific plan to reduce the discharge of greenhouse gas (GHG) in production and updated its commitment to sustainability. This year, the company plans to expand its investment in renewable energy and is based on its net zero target in 2050.
It feels like a lifetime in 2050, so Lego Group has adopted a smaller, more digestible steps to reduce the current greenhouse gas emissions. By expanding its solar plan, the company hopes that by 2032, the emissions will be reduced by 37 % instead of the 2019 benchmark. The Lego Group increased its global solar capacity by more than 61 % within two years. Although this accounts for only 4 % of the company’s total energy consumption, the brand plan has expanded its capacity, until the end of 2025 reached 72 %.
We want children to inherit a healthy planet. This is why in 2025, we will double the increase in the sustainability plan and the expenditure in 2023, and we have been looking for a new method of minimizing environmental impact. Reducing emissions is not linear, but our commitment to emergency tasks is firm. The development of this lofty goal is already underway. Solar panels and Energy Park are installed in LEGO Group’s facilities around the world, including Hungary, the headquarters of Vietnam and Lego Group in Denmark. The company will also explore and try other energy -saving technologies (such as battery storage) to further use its renewable energy.
Due to increased demand and investment in new appliances, since the plan was announced, the greenhouse gas emissions of Lego Group have increased. However, the Lego Group continued to play a long game. Many new machines have launched environmental protection plans to the production line, including paper packaging and energy -saving modeling machines, which will play a vital role in the reduction of future emissions.
