Episode 5 2.5 Three-dimensional temptation provides a satisfying conclusion to the first major event – but with some minor caveats.
I think it was a wise decision to end the convention with an entire episode. The photo shoot was a big part of it and I was a little indifferent about it. It had to happen, but I didn’t think the comedy beats landed and the situation seemed a little too comical and wacky considering amateur Relisa’s skills (supposedly).
But the subsequent scenes were handled pretty well. Rilisa had the opportunity to hear horror stories from others with more experience role player. The stories are either really unique and interesting (like wings in the bathtub) or at least semi-relevant in some way (I personally have never worn dentures on the subway, but I forgot I was out and about dressed weirdly or embarrassing clothing). The hilarious reactions from the other diners and a little extra oomph on every comedy beat helped top it off, it was all very well done.
I also admire Rissa’s determination to keep going. It has the feel of a sports comic where the player actually competes for the first time and loses. Ririsa is passionate about continuing to pursue her passion and do it better at the next opportunity (in this case, Summer comics), despite not performing to the level she had hoped. This gives us a clear purpose that goes beyond kids just hanging out in a club room researching obscure facts for non-existent intellectual property rights.
The semi-confession at the end is pretty typical. We can’t let our leaders express their love That Is now okay? The season is less than half-way! Anyway, that “they’re all idiots” card at the end made me chuckle.
