It’s that time of the week again. Yeah, it’s time to talk about another weird little short, because I guess the show will continue to open with these for the foreseeable future. This one is a little more “plot related” than last week’s, as we get an explanation of how Tuca actually brought all the Fairy Tail guild members to Team Natsu’s location… by loading them all into a cart. Seeing her struggling to move them one by one without knowing what to do with people like Elfman or Laxus, they were so strong she couldn’t even lift them off the ground with force Get up, this is so much fun. Eventually she decides to possess Elfman and use him to impress everyone, like she’s always supposed to do, but seeing her build towards that conclusion makes it more interesting than I expected and I’m willing to give this one my stamp of approval seal.
Speaking of things that turn out better than expected, this week’s episode ended a lot crazier than I thought it would, but before we talk about that, there’s a few other things to say. When we left off last week, Natsu decided to use the God Seed to create a Zeref clone, and it seems that Natsu’s secret plan was indeed to use Zeref’s curse to start destroying all plant life in the area. After seeing how much damage Zeref can do, Natsu threatens to create more clones if the Godseed tries to scan his mind again, and they take a different tack. The most powerful god type is sent against the other members of the Fairy Tail guild, while Natsu is drawn into a battle with their leader who claims to be the subject of Aldoron himself. Considering this arc has been dragging on for the past few weeks, I can’t really say I’m a fan of this particular twist, as it means we have to go through another long series of fights before it can happen. Hopefully they’ll be a little more interesting than what we got from the last batch.
Thankfully, this finally brings us to the biggest twist of the week, which is the real highlight of the episode. When Wendy’s group encounters a God Seed, Wendy is too exhausted to fight and Kara tries to intervene, which results in, as you might expect, a curse that turns her into moss and kills her Five minutes later. But just when all hope was lost, it was… the behind-the-scenes members of the Fairy Tail Guild who should take action. I’m not even talking about Romeo, Macau or Wakaba, they are usually seen as a joke but have enough of a presence that you can usually remember they are there, but guys like Lackey or Max are really just here Filling out the roster, and often so unimportant that I can’t even remember their names unless they’re active on screen (does the dancer have a name? I just forget he exists).
Considering Majima certainly wouldn’t make a character a businessman just for a stupid joke, I thought this scene was a total joke and even Happy thought these guys were probably useless, but when Wendy decided to use the last one she of enchantment magic to enhance their powers, the insert music started playing, and I realized it was being played with 100% sincerity, and I had a goofy smile on my face watching these guys work together to win. Sure, we hear it all the time that these guys may be weak individually but show their true power when fighting for their friends and so on, but it’s hard when they come from a group of otherwise less powerful characters. Don’t ignore this. I guess this shows that Majima’s penchant for unexpected turns can occasionally be fun, and while I don’t think the rest of these fights will achieve anything quite as memorable, it does make me more optimistic that they might be fun to watch. , hey, if they weren’t, I’m glad we at least got this beautiful little moment in time for these guys to get their 15 seconds of fame. Sadly, this may never happen again.
