I have good news and bad news, guys Mission: Night Sakura fan. The good news is that another episode of the show, which has proven itself to be a reliable source of entertainment over the past fifteen weeks, aired this week. The bad news is, as we enter the summer of streaming commentary, Medium size: YF There is no reduction in weekly poll reporting. This means this will be the last time we see Taiyo, Mutsumi, and the other Yozakura siblings until I catch up on the entire series with a full season review at some point in the future.

My biggest concern about Yozakura Blood is that it won’t be a very entertaining episode as our final review of the show. The first half focuses on a very direct battle between Normen and Shinzo. It’s a good fight considering the rather mediocre production values, but not much happens here as it’s clear that this fight is mostly a stalling tactic. It’s funny that the sun has to act like a deranged terrorist and force all hotel guests to evacuate. He’s really despairing of the whole “weird gun pervert” thing. I didn’t know he had this on him!

Thankfully, the stakes are raised significantly when a mysterious old man working with Tanpopo nearly assassinates Taiyo with a simple hug (and presumably a bunch of small stab wounds). This lands Taiyo in the hospital, which causes Tanpopo’s army of monsters to lay siege to the entire Yozakura mansion. It’s an all-or-nothing moment that gives the whole family a chance to show off their stuff. Goliath grows tall and majestic; Futaba shows off her stuff and Kyouichiro messes with more people with his murder wire.

Of course, this means that this episode suffers from the opposite of what I originally feared: here we have an episode that sets up a real climactic battle where our hero is unable to step in and defend his family…and ends up with a cliffhanger . It doesn’t help that while the opening sequence of the battle is interesting as a concept, it’s also barely animated, and all those still frames and cheap-looking pans don’t quite inspire the kind of excitement you’re looking for. cheer. Still, if we just think of this episode as another episode of a season that’s still ongoing, it’s pretty good. Far from “great” mind you, but pretty good.

That’s probably how I’d describe the entire series so far. It’s fun to watch Taeyang come into her own and win the love of her new bride and brother-in-law, but most of the show’s ambitions begin and end with “fun.” It’s not the prettiest, most thrilling, funniest, or most eye-catching anime, but as far as action-comedy anime with a hint of cheesy romance goes, you could probably do better than Mission: Yozakura Family. I will miss these fools and their wacky misadventures, and hope one day I can return to this world of spies and true love.

    score:

Mission: Yozakura Family Currently on Hulu in the US and Disney+ in other areas.
