With all the problems Kanata’s antics have caused in the past few episodes, I was really shocked at how this episode started. That said, Anna decided to shut down the PomPom channel because she somehow realized that Kanata was right that their focus should be on fulfilling every request they receive, no matter how small, in order to achieve that Target, they will return to local operations. I said last week that I wasn’t interested in how everything was resolved because I didn’t get the impression that the show thought Kanata had done anything wrong other than forcing himself, and this pretty much confirms that. While I can understand why the girls wanted to shut things down, they didn’t have any real problems with the operation aside from the issues caused by Kanata exhausting herself behind her back. It kind of feels like Kanata doesn’t have much of a lesson to learn in the first place, and between this and the other stuff she gets in this episode, I’m just getting more and more frustrated with how her character has become deal with.
Before that, though, let’s at least see how the other girls handle slowing things down. After the channel closes, we see a montage of them engaging in casual cheering activities, as well as some interactions that highlight their growth or becoming closer to each other. But since many of the character arcs we got with them either fell flat or ended without the girls experiencing any real change, I didn’t feel much for the sequence of events, and it didn’t really land. is what the show expected. It doesn’t help that this section features some of the shoddiest animation we’ve seen on the show so far. although PA Engineering Finishing the show ahead of schedule means it’s probably not in any danger of visibly melting down in its final episodes, which distracted me enough that I worried about where it might end up cutting corners.
Back on the other side, she tells Megumi that now that she has left everything about cheerleading behind, she has decided to start looking for something new for herself. This seems to be because she wants to learn to dance, and when she sees a girl named Ya from the cheerleading team dancing, she pesters her to be her teacher. This also somehow leads to Kanata rejoining the cheerleading squad, which even without considering how much of her previous conversation was immediate, feels like a weird move at this stage because otherwise it’s starting to feel like she’s gotten over this . This also ends up reminding me of some of my previous issues with how the show handles Kanata’s screams, as she keeps claiming that even after we’ve seen her perform gymnastics, she still can’t “fly” the way she wants to , and the cheerleading moves were in great demand in the first few episodes. Her fall last week was one of the biggest we’ve seen in a while, and even then it was more likely caused by her being distracted by her argument with Kei than directly caused by her condition. I think that’s better than continuing to ignore it almost entirely, but it feels like the show should be portraying something more consistently than it has so far.
My biggest complaint about this episode was learning the identity of the anonymous poster who called Kanata out. Since Kanata spent a lot of time pestering Miyabi this episode, I assumed she was the culprit, but it turns out she’s another girl named Mari at the club. To be honest, the cheerleaders don’t stand out too much individually, so I’m not even sure if this is a character that blends too much into the background to stand out, or if it’s someone we’ve never seen before. But it turns out that we only get to see her because she’s actually the girl involved in the incident that caused Kanata to cry. It’s a solid twist on paper, but the problem here is that we haven’t seen or really heard much about this character outside of the one scene she’s in, and the build-up to this revelation is so little to As for me having to come back to this role again. The only real impact this has is on Kanata, and even though the end credits give us a montage of how close the two of them once were, all I can think about is how little of an impact this show had on me. everything. I guess events from Kanata’s past will eventually come up again in the finale, but the show has handled her character so poorly so far that my interest in it has all but disappeared. The only big thing I’m looking forward to at this point is the show finally ending.
