After three years, Famicom Detective Club returns with a new game. Emio – The Man Who Smiled is the first game in the series since The Missing Heir and The Girl Standing Behind launched on the Famicom disk system. The game launches today (August 29) exclusively on Nintendo Switch, but physical copies are hard to come by. Emio – Smiling Man Only in stock at GameStop Right now; Best Buy and Target are sold out, and Amazon/Walmart don’t currently have them for sale.

Emio – The Smiling Man is only available in the US as a standard edition for $50. If you can find a copy in stock, you can import the English-enabled Collector’s Edition. The digital version is available on the Switch eShop for the same price.
This visual novel follows two investigators as they investigate the murder of a student whose death may be related to the urban legend of the Smiling Man. your job is Assistant private detectives from the Utsu Detective Agency will find out whether the murder marks the return of Emi. Ayumu Tachibana is an important protagonist in the first two games of the series and is the first playable character.
Based on this description, it probably goes without saying, but Emio – The Smiling Man is one of the rare Nintendo-developed/published games with a Mature ESRB rating – and it’s certainly not one of Nintendo’s typical kid-friendly releases.
If you’d like to experience the previous games in the series, The Girl Standing Behind and The Missing Heir, consider purchasing the Two-Box Collection for $60. This digital collection includes remasters of both games and received significant revisions for Switch in 2021.
