At the Disney D23 Expo this weekend, Dwayne Johnson came out to announce a new monster truck movie project he’s developing called monster jam.
Inspired by Monster Truck Driver, the film will revolve around a series of motorsport events featuring monster trucks that have toured the United States since 1992.
During these Monster Jam events, monster trucks will compete in three formats, including racing, two-wheel tricks and freestyle competition. The Monster Jam website describes the film as “set in the Monster Jam universe,” so it’s likely that it will strictly follow that format.
Some other competitions in the event also test driving skills and the ability to create big scenes, such as car crushing competitions. Monster Jam was retired in 2019, though, which is silly because it was so good! But maybe they’ll bring it back for a movie.
“We’ve been given an opportunity here to create something immersive, cool and fun and provide our families around the world with a real-life experience from these incredibly iconic monster trucks,” Johnson said at D23 With their very wacky and crazy drivers ladies and gentlemen, Monster Jam is going to be a great ride.
Juliette Feld Grossman, CEO of Monster Jam parent company Feld Entertainment, said on their website: “The merger of The Rock and Monster Jam is truly the biggest ever!
“We are excited to partner with Dwayne Johnson and The Walt Disney Pictures to bring moviegoers into the world of Monster Jam in an exciting live-action adventure that will feature the legendary Monster Jam trucks and in-stadium characters onto the screen.
It would be interesting to see Disney and Monster Jam team up, and I’m sure with Johnson’s involvement, it will be a fun movie.
Some well-known monster truck brands include Gravedigger, Earth Shaker, and El Toro Loco. What was your favorite monster truck growing up?
