Sometimes, the simpler the story, the more perfect it is. wild robotThe latest film from DreamWorks Animation does both. It’s simple, perfect, and easily the best animated film of the year. Yes, you heard it right, Brain Teasers 2.
Written and directed by Chris Sanders (Lilo & Stitch, How to Train Your Dragon) and adapted from a children’s book by Peter Brown, wild robot It follows a robot named Roz (Lupita Nyong’o) who finds herself stranded on a deserted island filled with wild animals. Rhodes soon realizes that her high-tech look and human-centered programming don’t mix in that world, which becomes an even bigger problem when she discovers an abandoned goose egg. The egg then hatches and imprints on her, and she must decide what to do next. With the help of the cunning fox Fink (Pedro Pascal), Rhodes names the goose Brightbill (Kit Connor), and the three form an unlikely family. , Roz becomes a mother in a world she barely knows.
It’s simple: robots become mothers in the wild. From there, Sanders and his team set clear goals for the characters and used the space they created to flex their muscles in the story and animation. Story-wise, this movie is familiar to almost everyone: the idea of a person completely unprepared to be a parent, forced to change the world for something they love. plus wild robotwhich is literal, as Roz was not programmed to raise another life. We then see them through the animation style, which is always beautiful and colorful, but everything except Rhodes looks a little rough around the edges. It really brings home the juxtaposition between nature and technology.
What’s so magical about wild robot (Besides) it all happened very quickly. The film unfolds at breakneck speed, so while the story grabs you with its easily definable goals, you barely realize how emotionally invested you are. By the time the film reaches a historical montage of Brightbill learning to fly, it’s hard to ignore the emotion of this burgeoning family finding their footing and success. Kris Bowers’ score only adds to the momentum, one of the most thrilling and thrilling scores of the year. The tears come early and often.
The pacing also means it reaches the climax you’d expect from a movie before the running time is over. So it’s going to continue and it’s going to get better and better. What started as a film about a mother and her son grew into a much larger, more epic story about the entire island and beyond. By the end, you can hardly believe that this seemingly simple wild robot story has gotten to where it needs to be.
There are a lot of great characters on the island, each with their own personality and story, and there’s nothing wrong with that. For example, Catherine O’Hara is a female possum named Pinktail, and Mark Hamill is a possum named Thorn. The terrifying grizzly bear, Matt Berry, is a badger named Paddler. Even the smaller characters (Stephanie Hsu, Bill Nighy and Ving Rhames among them) have this talent that makes wild robot A higher level of quality and confidence helps bring it all together.
In the world of film criticism, one might think that writing about absolute rave-ups would be the easiest thing to do. This is usually true, but not here. wild robotIt’s so good that I can’t give you any examples, I can’t think of any descriptions, and I can’t use any superlatives to describe it. You just have to see and experience it for yourself. This is very special.
wild robot The Fantastic Fest music festival was recently held in Austin, Texas, and opened everywhere on September 27th.
