After a two-week holiday break, I’m back with my recommendations for the best comics to buy on January 8th. Comics website that exists (now a monthly newsletter), on The Beat since 2022.

It’s been a fun exercise for me, and I hope, a valuable service for those of you weekly comic morbids out there. The most worth buying comics on January 8th
Batman: Dark Mode #2

Batman is on the hunt for a mysterious wounded man! Case 01: We Are Hurt – Part 2 As the mysterious “Hurt” body count mounts, the Dark Knight detective must delve into the festering depths of Gotham’s past to uncover the secret truth at the heart of the “Hurt” crime .
Why it’s cool: One of the things I really like about DC’s current lineup is its diversity. This week only, you can take on new adventures with classic characters Absolute Batman #4…At the same time, you have a book like this that takes the classic detective side of the character and finds new, moody territory to explore. I really liked the first issue Batman: Dark Patterns, But I found this – focusing more on truly disturbing wounded people – to be very well done. It’s just two questions, but we already have early signs that this could be a new Batman canon.

Blood Brothers Mother #3

Why it’s cool: This book is a purely excellent Western comic that proves that the right creator can still make the genre work. All three issues of this book are great, and the third installment really elevates the plot with some great character development. This may be a little unknown, but it’s a great book.

Why it’s cool: First up, here’s a new project from the same creative team Eight billion elves, One of my personal favorite direct-to-consumer comics of recent years. And it maintains its momentum of success. It’s a very different book (one we’ll explore in more depth in tomorrow’s Comics Review Wednesday column), despite the global interest in the importance of personal morality. It’s also full of great art and smart choices.

Why it’s cool: This comic is both clever and disturbing, and it really puts you in the mind of its two protagonists, who are both battling a mysterious disease in different ways. It is also a meditation on America in the 1940s and 1950s, the major events of those decades, and what they said about the country. The exciting story continues in the new issue.

As Lottie deals with the ins and outs of her new relationship, we turn our attention to Caroline’s mysterious brother Virgil. Who is this guy? What does he know? Who knows what he knows? Why? So what? what else? Um? Only for “Snot Girl”!
Why it’s cool: After a long pause, a new era snot girl Continuing with a problem solved almost exclusively by members of the supporting cast. I really like when books turn to focus on the people surrounding “Snotgirl,” and this issue is no exception. I’m still glad this unique and stylish comic is back.
