Nearly ten years have passed since then doctor who It was last seen in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con — though that’s a drop in the bucket in the show’s 60-year history. During this time, the show has undergone significant changes, including no longer being exclusively produced by the BBC (Bad Wolf and Sony own 51%), and the return of showrunners Russell T. Davisreturn (and exit) David Tennant As the 14th Doctor, the show received a full reboot, moving to Disney+ and starting with the first season.
Oh, and of course, there’s the introduction of the first black queer doctor, by Nuti Gatwa.

Davis admitted that when he first rebooted the series in 2005, he never foresaw how it would change and evolve. Gatwa and Gibson gush about filming ‘Rogue’ and he wraps up Jonathan Grove Finished with her Indra Varma. (It’s worth noting that Gibson called the episode “Bridgerton.”) It started snowing in Hall H as Gibson spoke, much to the audience’s amusement, but she also talked about being peers in a Gen Z way , including discussing how post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) must have been painful for her character.
The show also debuts a full special Christmas 2024 trailer featuring guest stars Nicola Coughlan. The trailer is a time-travel romp, with the Doctor traveling through the ages trying to find out who ordered the pumpkin latte, only to encounter the Silurians.
Speaking of Silurians, Davis has finally confirmed that the first Whoniverse spin-off will indeed be called war between land and sea and is a limited five-part series. it will be a star Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Rawalso Gemma Redgrave As Head of UNIT, Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Alexander Defriant As her newest foot soldier, Colonel Ibrahim.
Yes, Tovey and Mbatha-Raw have appeared on the show before, but no, they won’t be reprising their original roles: midshipman Frame and Martha’s sister Tish Jones. (Davis, however, said he would totally write the team-up.) We also learn that our favorite Silurian Lady Vastra, her human wife Jeyne Fleet, and the Sontaran housekeeper from the beginning Strax will not appear in the new series. Davis admits they are Steven Moffat inventions, so if Moffat hadn’t written this episode, he wouldn’t have brought them back.
We also learned the name of the new TARDIS joining season 2, by Varada SetuSomeone fans met in season 1 (albeit as a different character): Belinda Chandra. Additionally, Ruby Sunday has a new youngster she’s been hanging out with, played by Jonah Hall-King (world on fire). Davis talks about sending Gibson home to live with her biological mother and her adopted mother, noting that Ruby does experience post-traumatic stress disorder, which will lead to her return to the TARDIS.
Also, there will be plenty of musical numbers in the Season 2 episodes, although Davis said none of the episodes will be “official” musicals. Gatwa did hint that he hasn’t seen the Daleks yet, suggesting that season two will once again be without the show’s famous pepperpot villain.
Doctor Who Christmas Special It will air on BBC and Disney+ on Christmas Day, December 25. war between land and sea and doctor who Season 2 (or Season 15/41, if you prefer) is expected to air in 2025.
