Last year, ahead of the release of Raiders of the Lost Ark: Dial of Destiny, Disney released its first four films – Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. Strange Soldiers”. But as of this month, Dial of Fate is the last Indiana Jones movie to stream on Disney+.
For fans of the series, this shouldn’t be too surprising. Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, giving the studio full ownership of Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Willow and all other intellectual properties created under George Lucas. However, the deal does not retroactively give Disney rights to any films produced before 2012. A similar situation existed with the first six Star Wars movies, but the issue was resolved in 2019 when Disney acquired all of Fox’s entertainment assets.
While Paramount+ was the natural destination for the first four Indiana Jones films, it’s not their next stop. All four movies are now streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video service. But it’s likely they’ll return to Paramount+ at some point, possibly even on Peacock or Netflix.
One entry in the Raiders of the Lost Ark series that’s now back in the vault is The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles . Disney+ briefly aired the show last year, but the show’s two seasons are no longer available on the streaming channel.
