Disney+ is in early development on a new movie called "Disney+" phantomwhich will be a reimagined teen movie Gaston Lerouxclassic novel Phantom of the Opera.
This series is under development Kenny Ortegawho previously developed high school musical and Descendants For Disney. He will direct and executive produce the film. He has also been involved in projects such as Dirty Dancing, trick, ferris bueller’s day off and Pretty in pink.
The film’s spec script was written by Giovanni M.Botta (midnight) from a story Door and Eric Bromberg.
This 1909 novel, set in the 1880s, tells the story of Eric, a mysterious, disfigured musical genius who lives beneath the Paris Opera House. He becomes obsessed with the young soprano Christine and manipulates events to make her an opera star.
The story has been adapted and retold many times in theater, film and television, but the most famous version is in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Broadway musical.
There’s no other information yet on how the movie will handle the story, but if this was a teen reimagining, I suspect it would involve social media and/or pop star type stuff.
