famous film producer david grove announced that he would no longer personally direct his projects after being diagnosed with emphysema.
The writer-director revealed his diagnosis on social media, citing his years of smoking as the cause of his illness. He also added that although he can’t direct himself, he will never retire.
“Whether I like it or not, I’m staying at home. I can’t go out. And I can only walk short distances before I run out of oxygen,” Lynch explained in an interview with Sight & Sound magazine.
After the interview, several of his colleagues and fans expressed support, and he later issued his own statement.
He said: “Yes, I have emphysema from years of smoking. I have to say, I love smoking, and I do love tobacco – the smell of it, lighting cigarettes, smoking them – but there’s a reason This enjoyment comes at a price, and my price was emphysema.
“I have been quitting smoking for more than two years now. I have had a lot of checkups recently and the good news is that apart from the emphysema, I am in good health. My heart is filled with happiness and I will never retire. I want you to You all know, I really appreciate your concern.
