If you’ve never read Danmei before, you may feel overwhelmed at times. This is mainly because these novels tend to be at least a hundred pages longer than a typical light novel, if not more, and novels make up a large portion of titles officially released in English, either digitally or physically. This makes Dinghai Fusheng Records For those interested in Danmei, this is a great entry point. Whether you call it a comic or a webcomic (both titles are appropriate), the comic format makes the book feel less time-consuming.
It’s also a great example of the genre, although it’s a little lighter on the romance front than other series at the moment. (They can’t all be You Got the Mail: The Dangers of the Pigeon Post Officeby the way, if you want a sex-filled book, this is a good choice. [anime-]The famous Three Kingdoms era), the story revolves around the sixteen-year-old exorcist Chen Xing. In fact, he is final Exorcist, due to the sharp decrease in China’s available mana, his power is far weaker than that of his predecessors. The reason is Tianmo Moluo. Chenxing wants to defeat Tianmo Moluo, but to do this, he needs to find his own guardian Martial God. instead of becoming a actual Oh my gosh, this is the name of a warrior who protects the exorcist while doing his job, and when the book opens, Chen Xing has just arrived in the northern city to look for him. Chen Xing uses the “Heart Lamp” as a guide. This exorcism power not only illuminates his path, but also becomes stronger as the protector Martial God approaches. Fortunately for Chen Xing, his guardian was indeed present. Not so good? The man is already on death row and has zero interest in helping the exorcist.
So is he howla group considered distinct from the Han Chinese. This is a somewhat vague term, today it is thought to refer specifically to people from the steppes, while in the Jin Dynasty it had the meaning of barbarians. This sets Uncle Xiang apart from the other characters, and also makes him at least somewhat suspicious – as evidenced by Uncle Xiang’s immediate abandonment of him after Chen Xing saves him. Of course, this is not the end of the encounter between the two young people, nor is it the whole picture of Uncle Xiang… In fact, he may have refused to protect Chen Xing because of his mission and his status as a quasi-Robin Hood.
Much of the book is spent on understanding Chen Xing’s background and leading people to realize that Xiang Shu is far more important than anyone imagined. Along the way, Chen Xing meets a man named Feng Qianjun, a self-proclaimed assassin and almost certainly someone else (perhaps another person), as well as a dog he rescued from an abandoned villa, and Immediately name Uncle Xiang with a name. (He also totally won me over by buying a furry little vest for the dog.) As far as we know, Chen Xing believed he would die at the age of twenty, when his guardian star, Sui Xing ( Zodiac signs) will lose their power. So he was acting under duress, and while he was absolutely sure he wouldn’t die before then, he also realized he needed to make the most of his time. This is why he must convince Uncle Xiang to become his guardian warrior: not because he will die without him, but because his presence will make it easier for him to complete his mission.
The fact that there are both Hu and Han characters allows the story to explore some of the cultural differences between them, which are largely reflected in folklore. For example, in an abandoned (or seemingly abandoned) mountain village, the characters are attacked by what they call “drought demons,” zombies created from the rage of those killed during the war. These monsters are called “Drought Demons” and “Drought Demons,” making it clear that they are the same creature, just with two different names. This seems to be a theme that could be explored further as the story develops, as the cultural differences between the Hu and Han appear to be important to understanding the character of Xiang Shu.
It’s different from Danmei novels seven seas Published, this book does not have a pronunciation guide or a glossary of terms that may be unfamiliar, so readers are left to look up on their own what a “polite name” is or how to pronounce the letter “x” in Chinese. This may assume that the reader is already familiar with seven seas” Nice line, but it still seems like an unfortunate omission. Still, the story is very interesting, the art is beautiful, and the transition from vertical scrolling to a traditional page is nice while still allowing us to see how it would work in the original format.
The source novel for the series is licensed (also written by seven seas) and will be released starting in Spring 2025, so you can choose how to read this story. But comics/webtoons are a great way to get into the world of danbi. It’s a fun story with beautiful art, and if it can stand up to a little romance, I think patience in that regard will pay off in the end.
