To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Monster Hunter is teaming up with Digimon to release one of the coolest official Monster Hunter merchandise we’ve seen yet: a Monster Hunter-themed Digimon virtual pet. This crossover makes a lot of sense, but we really can’t say the same about the upcoming Monster Hunter-themed Fender Telecaster electric guitar (it looks great, though).
There are two Monster Hunter V-Pet Color devices to choose from, both themed after iconic Monster Hunter creatures: a red device based on Rathalos, and a blue device featuring Zinogre . Both monsters also have unique variations that combine them with classic Digimon, with Firedragon combining with the DigimonGreymon to become FiredragonGreymon, and Ginogrey and Garurumon becoming GinoGarurumon . These special forms can be obtained through pet-raising mini-games and battles included on the device.

There are over 30 other monsters you can collect and upgrade in the game, including other Monster Hunter creatures like Mizutsune, Rajaang, Nargacuga, Tigrex, Gore Magala, and Khezu. Like other V-Pet Color units, the units measure approximately 1.75 inches high by 2.5 inches wide and feature a full-color mini LCD screen, buttons and speakers. You can pre-order Monster Hunter V pets at the Big Bad Toy Store for $100 each. We expect other retailers to start pre-ordering soon. Both models are expected to be released in February next year.
- Monster Hunter x Digimon V – Pet Color – Rathalos — $100
- Monster Hunter x Digimon V-Pet Color – Zinogre — $100
yes these are Very Expensive gadgets – V-Pets with full-color displays are much more expensive than regular V-Pets with cheap low-pixel LCDs. They are also quite scarce in North America. On Amazon, you can buy the V-Pet with a full-color screen imported from Japan for $105 from a reseller (this model was priced at $70 when it launched).
For those unfamiliar with the V-Pet device, the Tamagotchi Keychain Game is the original genesis of the Digimon series. Today, Digimon is best known for its anime, trading card game, and video game adaptations, but the series’ origins can be traced back to the late 1990s with the Digimon virtual pet series. These keychain toys, later renamed Digimon V-Pets, were launched shortly after Bandai launched another popular virtual pet: the Tamagotchi. V-Pet monsters are not simply raised for small alien creatures, but are raised for combat – both in-game and against other players.
If you’re interested in raising monsters to fight without spending $100, you can buy a modern version of the original for less than $15 on Amazon.

Monster Hunter: Wild is the next game in Capcom’s popular action role-playing series and is expected to be released on February 28, 2025. .
