It’s that time again; the end of one season of Diablo 4 and the (soon to be) beginning of another. Blizzard officially announced the title of Season 5: Season of the Hell Tribe. The new season is named after the new co-op activities added to the game.
It kicks off on August 6th, bringing with it tons of new loot, new quest lines, Hell Horde activities, new dungeons, and more.

The Hell Tribe Season continues the Diablo 4 tradition that began with Season 4: Loot Reborn. Because the new seasonal quests are fairly small and only serve as an introduction to new mechanics or activities. In this case, it’s Hell Tribe, a cooperative campaign similar to Horde Mode (which can also be played solo).
Just like Season 4, most of what Season 5 brings to the game will be available in both seasonal and eternal realms. In other words, you don’t need to interact with Diablo 4’s live servers to access new content, as you’re simply doing so to advance through the battle pass.
Of course, the highlight of season five is Hell Tribe. This endgame activity can be played on world level 3 and is essentially an advanced horde mode. Players who participated in the Season 5 PTR can give it a try, and virtually nothing has changed since then. This wave-based event occupies the palace of the Hell Realm of Hatred and challenges you to fight off wave after wave of demons. After completing each 60-second wave, you can select Bones and Bane, and these buffs/debuffs will persist for the remainder of your session. Your resurrections are limited, and losing all of them is how you end your run.
Hell Horde brings back the Corrupted Council from Diablo 2, now corrupted and spawning bosses in unique ways that try to stop you from progressing through Hell Horde’s ranks.
Burning Aether is the primary currency you collect while fighting your way through the hordes of Hell. After defeating the Fallen Council boss, you’ll receive Hell’s Loot, a set of rewards including masterwork materials, gold, and items with advanced affixes.
Infernal Loot also contains legendary and unique items, as well as boss summoning materials. Each Infernal Loot will cost you 20 Ether, or 60 points for Premium Gear Loot, which will always drop items with Premium affixes.
Season 5 also introduces a new type of dungeon, which is somewhat of an introduction to the Hell Tribe. Known as “Hellbreach Dungeons,” they’re essentially mini versions of how Hellbreach Dungeons work, containing similar mechanics (like sacrifices) and ending with a boss battle.
Hellbreak dungeons are available in seasonal realms and offer similar rewards, also dropping Burning Aether, which you can use to unlock chests at the end of each dungeon.
Speaking of rewards, Season 5 adds over 50 new items to the loot pool, divided into legendary and unique rarities. They can be obtained anywhere in the Diablo 4 world, but have a higher chance of dropping in the Infernal Horde.
Hell Tribe Season Launches on 10am PT, 1pm ET, 6pm UK Tuesday, August 6th. It will also reveal some crazy changes that make the game unique.
