Sony has had a very mixed year with live streaming games, but even so, Guerilla’s next game will reportedly be Horizon Online, not Horizon 3.
A few years ago, Sony announced its intention to release 10 live-service games by the time 2026 rolls around, a plan that will only please the wealthy and those who think they can play multiple live-service games at once (they can’t, they takes up too much of your time). Last year, Sony delayed several of those titles, with the troubled online spin-off The Last of Us being pulled from production just a month later. This year, Sony’s Helldiver 2 actually had some success, a huge success in fact… it’s just that, by then, Concord had failed more than any other AAA game in a long time. However, Jason Schreier claims that Guerilla Games will release Horizon Online next, rather than a third single-player game.

Speaking on the Spawncast Podcast, host Spawn Wave shared his hesitations about Horizon’s multiplayer, noting that Forbidden West doesn’t seem to be selling at the “Zero Dawn-like pace” and wondering if people want one A fully online game, Schreier shared, “Horizon Online is their next product, not a third single-player game. So there may be a lot more to this game.” Long way to go.

Schreier went on to explain, “PlayStation’s live service plan is no joke, it’s full of live service games, and Horizon is one of the few games that didn’t get canceled or didn’t launch and fail like Concord did. There were a lot of issues there. , but many people are working on this online project.
Guerilla confirmed its online Horizon spinoff back in 2022, as well as its next single-player game, but we haven’t really heard much about it since then. Sony clearly isn’t giving up on single-player gaming entirely, as it just released Tampere and there’s also a Horizon Zero Dawn remaster , but you can’t help but wonder if this live service push represents a death knell.
