Deadpool and Wolverine Come save us (and Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe) from superhero fatigue. Image after failure Miracle and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummaniawhich isn’t just the studio’s hope, it’s an actual plot point in the story Deadpool 2 sequel.
In the first act, the mouthy mercenary proudly proclaims himself the savior or “Marvel Jesus” of the Marvel Universe, destined to return the once world-conquering series to undisputed glory. But can a sequel filled with IP and blatant fan service truly shake off the baggage Kevin Feige’s Marvel Cinematic Universe has accumulated over the course of more than 30 movies and various TV shows?
It is commendable that Deadpool and Wolverine A lot of effort went into getting Disney’s expanded library of Marvel movies back in the hearts of fans. The star power of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reunites, Deadpool and Wolverine It brings plenty of satisfying spectacle and delightful surprises to the big screen, along with a slew of delightful cameos, an avalanche of action scenes and a host of R-rated jokes and gross-out bombshells. Plus, it’s really, really fun. But beyond all the pomp and fourth-wall breaking, Disney’s influence on Marvel’s most outrageous movie heroes continues to spread.

Superhero sequels mean retcons, and Deadpool and Wolverine Use this convenient storytelling device to place its narrative behind the events dead Pool, Deadpool 2, and Logan. So when an agent of the Transcendental Time Change Authority known as Mr. Paradox (played by Matthew McFadyen) threatens the very existence of Wade Wilson’s universe, wit’s obligation The police officer (Reynolds) hijacks TVA’s technicians to find the still-dead Wolverine.
Now you can relive that terrible 220-second “inheritance” argument again
This leads to a wonderfully frenetic montage in which Jackman reprises his role as Wolverine over and over again, bringing to life various comedic incarnations never before seen on screen. But when Deadpool and his kidnapped Wolverine are thrown into the wasteland of TVA, things turn from teamwork to trouble. There, forgotten variants fight for survival, and it’s a clever way to resurrect a range of Marvel characters from the past, from the silly to the iconic. But it also means the bickering friends must face Charles Xavier’s evil twin sister, Cassandra Nova (played by the evil and cunning Emma Corrin). Cassandra Nova possesses a variety of deadly telepathic abilities, but she truly loves probing her little ones’ brains with her long fingers. And to her, everyone is secondary.
Through this setting, the screenwriting team composed of Reynolds, dead Pool Scribe Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells and Deadpool and Wolverine Director Shawn Levy seemingly had free rein to cycle through Marvel heroes and villains to craft a hilariously complex adventure, but it was actually on a budget.

Levy previously directed the video game-inspired action comedy from Reynolds Free man, Realize what your audience wants most Deadpool and Wolverine And offers plenty of them. Reynolds, as ever in the skintight supersuit of his wisecracking antihero, fires off his snarky asides as freely and frequently as bullets. But while Reynolds’ solid sleight of hand will please Deadpool fans, Jackman is steadily running away in this movie—sometimes on all fours!
For nearly 30 years, Jackman has been satisfyingly flexing, glaring, and rampaging into battle mode as Wolverine, finding fresh textures of anger, regret, and tenderness along the way. he was not nominated for an oscar Logan Still an injustice in the movie. But it’s a new kind of triumph to see the 55-year-old action star unsheathing his adamantium claws again, as gruff and lovable as ever.
Their interactions are comedic and classic vaudeville, with Deadpool being the Joker and Wolverine being the straight man. But even more intense than the banter between the comedy duo is the fight. The combative couple often bickered with each other. Freed from the constraints of a PG-13 rating, these heroes get hammered hard, with blood and brain matter spraying and splattering in an R-rated gout. There’s some great exchanges here, both verbal and violent. Sometimes a packed theater cheers like children as they strike a pose. Their intense interactions will most likely put a huge goofy grin on your face, just like mine.
Popular stories that can be mixed and matched
Although the opening action sequence is gruesome, blending the best of Deadpool’s irreverence and ultra-violence, as the film progresses Levy loses his mind – and the action suffers. For example, past Deadpool movies have had brutal action scenes set to female pop songs (like Jouse Newton’s “Angel of the Morning”), and we’ve grown tired of the shenanigans. Levy’s selections — which include hits like the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris” and Avril Lavigne’s “I’m with You” — feel disjointed, and not because of their tone or lyrics (although that’s certainly true ), but because the choreography and editing have no common musicality. It feels like any favorite millennial pop jam could do the same thing.
Beyond the titular duo, there’s an exciting cast of characters battling it out in this sequel, albeit with varying degrees of success in execution. Some will get heroic moments where their signature weapon gets a huge boost. Others will get a close-up and savor a giggle or a sneer. However, the actual action sequences lack vision and cohesion, so they become a series of hits of diminishing effect. Some are difficult to understand; Some of them are just repetitive. At one point, when a horde of mutant Deadpools started fighting, it was hard to figure out where they were our Deadpool also joins the fight. When Levi gets into trouble, this behavior actually starts to ruin the experience.
used to be Deadpool and Wolverine Neutered by Disney?

Logan and dead Pool Both were rated R – pushing the superhero genre out of its comfort zone by embracing elements intended only for “mature” audiences, including sex, gore, drug use and bad language. Their similarly R-rated team-up has many of the same taboo elements. However, upon reflection, I’m less surprised by the things they get away with and more surprised by the things they shy away from.
For example, as teased in the trailer, there will be jokes about cocaine – Blind Al’s vice of choice – but other than Wolverine drinking Jim Beam, no drugs will be used on screen. (raptor Disdainful of Disney’s overall direction. But amid all the violence and swearing, there’s a distinct lack of sex. dead Pool offers an entire hilarious montage of Wade and Vanessa having holiday-themed sex. Deadpool 2 dabbling in cheeky jokes that suggest the character is pansexual, just like he is in the comics. but Deadpool and Wolverine With a few minor exceptions, the company has toned down the dirty jokes while also marginalizing other established queer characters. (Negasonic Teenage Warhead and her girlfriend Yukio are just guest appearances this time.)
Deadpool 2 is the funniest superhero movie ever. There is nothing to say about this.
Subtle neurosis about sex and sexuality is one thing. But considering that “Deadpool” is worried about half-assed laughs like “canceled by woke thugs” or “gen Z traumatization”, Disney seems to be using its mouth to impress the mercenaries. Toward conservatism. Maybe this movie is an attempt to appease viewers who were gritting their teeth over the last Star Wars trilogy — and acolyteof — Focusing on marginalized characters rather than the previously predominantly white, straight, male heroes. The jokes at the expense of Disney, Marvel, and Kevin Feige actually work the same way. Sure, they seemed provocative at first, with Deadpool pointing out Marvel’s missteps or Feige’s rules for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But consider how notoriously these studios control this IP. Consider Disney and Marvel’s history of suppressing queer representation on screen. You can see that Wade is supposed to be goading us with his unapologetic hot takes, but instead he feels less like he’s breaking new ground and more like he’s repeating the same old tropes from Twitter trolls.
With seemingly no big studio franchise to rival or emulate, Deadpool became just another cog in the Marvel machine.

Don’t get me wrong: I had an absolute blast watching this sequel.
Like its predecessor, its plot is convoluted, with shifting settings, timelines, and characters, and a lack of focus. But Levy and his team pack so much entertainment into this chaotic film that it’s easy to overlook the rough edges while you’re watching it. If you’re once again dazzled by Leno’s acerbic comedic persona, or in awe of Jackman’s burly bravado, or giddy at the live-action showdown you’ve probably imagined for decades, you’re not alone. there’s a lot of fun in it Deadpool and Wolverine, chief among them an absolutely stellar cast, with not only a recurring cast of delightful cameos, but two—count ’em, two! — The Marvel villains are truly unsettling but also fun, making the most of every line. Honestly, Macfadyen and Colin have every reason to see this in the theater.
As a “Deadpool” movie, Deadpool and Wolverine Satisfying – it proves propulsive, often hilarious, and full of thrills and surprises. But as a movie that, in its own exaggerated terms, aims to save superhero movies themselves, it’s just fine. There’s nothing more jaw-dropping or instantly iconic about this action than early Marvel or even the first dead Pool, this is no small matter. But what’s even more hateful is Deadpool and Wolverine It feels less like a course correction or rebellion than just another brick in the wall that builds a temple to fan service. Hence the expansion of a franchise that once offered carefree thrill rides, but now requires timeline graphics and an open wiki to follow. (We beg you, don’t do this in a theater.)
although Deadpool and Wolverine It’s a wild ride that’s sure to thrill audiences and have fans happily tumbling down rabbit holes of legends, allusions, and showbiz news, but it’s also a bit of a letdown. Once the giggles died down, it was clear: Deadpool and Wolverine Not here to save superhero movies. It’s here to show off Disney’s newly acquired IP.
