NOTE: We’ll be discussing some key plot spoilers for Deadpool and Wolverine in this article.
Deadpool and Wolverine is the latest in a long line of multiverse comic book movies and shows to come out in recent years, and if Deadpool is traveling across the multiverse, he’s encountering some many Other versions of Deadpool exist in Marvel Comics stories and are one of many cameos in the film. This is an encounter that’s been teased by the marketing, showing off Dogpool and Ms. Deadpool, but there’s a lot of others here.
But these people didn’t gather together by chance – they are the Deadpool Legion! Since Deadpool is essentially a parody of other Marvel heroes in the universe, it would only make sense for him to have his own multiverse group, such as the Spider-Society [link probably] We saw it in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Like the Spider-Society, Deadpool’s Legion is made up of alternate versions of Deadpool, which are often very different from the main version.
With the Spider-Verse being animated, they were able to get really weird and choose extra zany Spider-Men, like Peter Parker, who was actually a sentient car with spider powers. In comparison, Deadpool and Wolverine is a live-action movie, and at least what we see here are human. But they’re certainly not all Ryan Reynolds.
Introduced in 2010, Deadpool’s Legion was tasked with dealing with a pre-Big Bang cosmic entity called “consciousness” in a 12-issue storyline. This entity absorbs the consciousness of anything it comes into contact with, and the Elders of the Universe, like the Masters, are powerless to stop it. But Deadpool’s Legion – because they’re so weird and unhinged – aren’t affected by it, which puts them closer to it than anyone else in the multiverse. Just for fun, there’s also a bad version of the group in the comics, aptly called the “Legion of Evil Deadpool” – it’s made up of a bunch of Deadpool’s discarded body parts that, thanks to his regenerative healing factor, Body parts fused together in dumpsters.
However, none of this happens to Deadpool and Wolverine’s Legion of Dead – like most everyone else in the Void, they just work for Cassandra. This means our heroes have to fight them, resulting in a delightfully violent mayhem that’s the real highlight of the film.
Now, let’s take a look back at the members of Deadpool’s Legion we met in Deadpool and Wolverine.
