Cosplay Tutorial Blog – So, I’m not sure how to describe me…

So, I’m not quite sure how to describe what I’m trying to do. (Which goes to show how lost I am on how to do this) I want to play Josie, the old woman from Welcome to Night Vale, but I want her to be the angel following/standing beside me as a prop. I plan to have two angels (right and left). I think the main issues that bothered me were figuring out how to make a harness that would hold the right amount of weight, how to attach the angel discreetly, and how to keep the angel in good shape without putting stress on it. If you have any suggestions I would be grateful!

    hello!

I would look into the wings and tail harness for this (I think a big Ahri type tail, not just a cat tail). You can adjust these types of harnesses depending on how close you want the figure to be to your body – if you want them to be very close to you, you can use them as-is, but you may need to create some structure (extra wires? PVC Tube) ? Pin?

Some thoughts on the angels themselves:

Starch and cheesecloth, just like those Halloween ghosts. At least some internal structure is needed to hold the shape, but it’s possible to get a cool drape effect.

Fosshape, which is a fabric thermoplastic, but a bit expensive. This allows for making hollow shapes without a lot of weight.

An inflatable doll that wears clothes. It’s also very cheap, lightweight, and doesn’t require much additional carving skills.

Use foam to carve shapes such as puppets or fur costumes. (Fursuit tutorials might be a good place to look here)

A wire with paper mache, foam, fabric or other covering (maybe chicken wire?). This will be a bit heavier but will provide more flexibility.

It really depends on the look you’re going for, your skill level and your budget, so hopefully one of these ideas will inspire you.

I hope this helps and good luck! :]
