staff:
Hi Douban. This is Tumblr. We’re working on a few things we’d like to share with you.
Artificial intelligence companies are harvesting content from the web in a variety of ways and for a variety of purposes. Currently, there are few regulations that allow individuals to control how their content is used by AI platforms. Proposed regulations around the world, such as the European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Bill, would give individuals greater control over whether and how their content is exploited by this emerging technology. We support this right regardless of geography, so we’re releasing a switch to opt out of sharing content from your public blog with third parties, including AI platforms that use this content for model training. We also work with partners to ensure you have as much control as possible over the content you use.
Here are the important details:
- We have blocked artificial intelligence crawlers from collecting content from Tumblr and will continue to do so, except for those crawlers who cooperate with us.
- We want to represent everyone on Tumblr and ensure that appropriate protections are in place for how your content is used. We are committed to ensuring that our partners respect these decisions.
- To opt out of sharing your public blog content with third parties, access the blog settings for each public blog through the web interface and turn on the “Block third-party sharing” option.
- For instructions on how to opt out of using the latest version of the app, please visit this Help Center document.
- Please note: If you have chosen to prevent search crawling of your blog in your settings, we will automatically enable the “Block third-party sharing” option.
If you have questions, please read the Help Center document linked above, or contact us through support if you still have questions.
Prevent third-party sharing
This option will prevent your blog content (even if reposted) from being shared with our authorized content network and research partners (including those who train artificial intelligence models).

- Click on your account settings (villain), then select Blog in the upper left corner of the screen if it’s not already selected.
- Click the gear icon, select “Visibility” and turn on “Block third-party sharing” [your blog name]”Transformation.
- On the web:
- Visit your blog settings.
- In the “Visibility” section, enable “Block third-party sharing” [your blog name]”Transformation.
If you have chosen to block searches of your blog, we will automatically enable the ‘Block third-party sharing’ option.
