Concord will shut down on September 6th, just 11 days after launch. Players who purchased the game on PS5 and PC will receive a full refund, and the team responsible and Sony are reworking their next steps.
The news was broken by a PlayStation Blog post posted a few minutes ago, in which Ryan Ellis (game director at Firewalk Studios) wrote about the future of the ill-fated team-based shooter.

“Concord Fans – We’ve been listening closely to your feedback since Concord launched on PlayStation 5 and PC, and would like to thank everyone who has joined Polaris on its journey. Your support and the passionate community that has grown around the game have made us Benefited a lot.
“However, while many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognized that other aspects of the game and our initial launch did not live up to our expectations. Therefore, at this time we have decided to release the game from September 6, 2024 Start offline today and explore options, including those that better engage our players.
“While we determine the best way forward, Concord sales will cease immediately and we will begin offering full refunds to all players who purchased PS5 or PC games. If you purchased a PlayStation 5 game from the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct Refunds will be made back to your original payment method.
Concord’s launch didn’t go well, with a very low number of players launching on day one. This number peaked at 697 players on Steam on launch day, but has continued to decrease since then. As of this writing, the game has 30 releases, which is far lower than other games currently on the market with similar budgets.
It remains to be seen whether the game will become free-to-play, receive heavy modifications over the course of a few years, or be discarded forever. But it’s safe to say that after eight years of development and millions of dollars spent, this is not the outcome that anyone at Firewalk, Sony, or elsewhere, expected.
