Movie review:
- Renaud: **A boy from the East, a girl from the West and their romantic life choices**.
- If you’re a movie buff or critic, the year isn’t complete without watching a Woody Allen movie. He’s just the Takashi Miike of Hollywood, but the thing is he always manages to do it. He created his own style of screen presence, just like Wes Anderson and very few others. Uniqueness defines his work, so here’s another romantically twisted tale, with the first half of the film set in Los Angeles and the second half in New York.
- A young Jewish American trying his luck in Hollywood turns to his uncle, one of the film industry’s most popular and busiest agents, for help. He falls in love with his uncle’s personal assistant, but she reveals that she already has a boyfriend but isn’t here anymore. After some twists and turns, the story turns into a romantic triangle. Who gets who and how it all plays out kicks off the movie.
- As usual, Woody Allen’s background narration plays a big part in the storytelling, and all of these romantic troubles are told very well. It opens well and develops best in the middle, but ultimately falls short of its climax. I didn’t like the conclusion, nor the last 10-15 minutes. But thankfully it avoids giving the usual stuff and wraps up the end credits before clarifying what’s going on in the story. That’s one way to end it, which obviously isn’t as clever as a lot of movies. Regardless, the movie is still worth watching because of the good story and great acting, especially from Woody Allen.
