Call of Duty 3 introduced tools to combat hate speech in Modern Warfare 3, and now Activision Blizzard has shared the results of implementing these in-game systems. It also announced its commitment to improving antivirus for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Call of Duty’s current in-game text and voice moderation system automatically detects toxic comments and takes action. Players can expect these systems to be available when Black Ops 6 launches later this month, including the launch of Call of Duty’s AI voice moderation system globally (excluding Asia) in English, Spanish and Portuguese. With the launch of Black Ops 6, the system will be expanded to include voice censorship support for French and German.
Call of Duty’s text-based moderation of in-game text chat and usernames is available in 20 languages and will also feature in the launch of Black Ops 6. Designed to improve efficiency and accuracy.
“The Call of Duty team is committed to creating a positive, welcoming community for all players. Part of these ongoing initiatives involves developing and using technology to help our teams combat disruptive behavior,” Activision said.
The publisher also shared some of the results of the review program so far. Since the system was launched globally last year, more than 45 million text messages have been blocked across 20 languages, and overall exposure to voice toxicity has dropped by 43%.
“Since the introduction of improved voice chat enforcement in June 2024, repeat crime rates for voice chat-based crimes in Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty: Warzone have reduced by a combined 67% by 2024. In July 2020, 80% of players who had been subject to mandatory voice chat penalties since launch had not re-violated, and the risk of disruptive voice chat continues to decline, down 43% since January 2024,” Activision said.
Going forward, the publisher says Call of Duty’s disruptive behavior team is making ongoing improvements, including improving messaging to players, updating the code of conduct, and enhancing enforcement strategies.
When launching the core multiplayer mode for the first time in Black Ops 6, players will be reminded of Call of Duty’s Code of Conduct via an in-game message, asking them to acknowledge the pillars of the Code of Conduct before continuing.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released globally on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC on October 25. Playing the Black Ops 6 campaign will earn you unique rewards, including operator skins and weapon blueprints.
