DIEGO HIGUERA: Your career took off on Instagram in 2018.
win: The internet itself has shaped my artistic style and the way I present my art. Most of the pieces are representative of what I see online every day, modified for my taste. Social media is still a very important part of the process, but often it’s the last part I think about.
Higuera: My Way presents your work from 2018 to 2024. What are the themes or moments of ?
win: I differentiate between the pieces based on how they make me feel. This is a resume of every moment over the past six years. The choice was a bit difficult because I’ve learned a lot over the years, but I’m still happy to see my progress.
Higuera: You’ve worked on a variety of projects, from working with Neon Genesis Evangelion and Bring Me the Horizon to launching your clothing brand, Hex Termina. How do you balance working in these different industries?
win: I enjoy collaborating and commissioning work. I’ve felt a great connection with my fans since I released my first Hex Termina. For me, I find balance by only working with people I like and learning how to be a good creative director.
Higuera: Your art often connects anime, fashion, and car culture, and frankly, your art style suits you very, very well! People who know you online and see your art can point you out immediately. What drew you to these fields?
win: It’s almost related to my childhood, just floating around and popping back up. My father was a mechanic and I remember looking at cars all day and anime at night, which got me interested in fashion and Japanese culture early on.
Higuera: You mentioned being inspired by Japanese culture and artists like Yoshitaka Amano and Kei Sadamoto. How have these influences shaped your artistic style?
win: Mr. Sadamoto is amazing, he is a master and I just stared at his amazing work in silence trying to understand what he was doing. Mr. Amano is the mastermind of fantasy and a pioneer of this genre, and almost everything related to this theme has his DNA in it. I have a lot of respect for this legend.
Higuera: Is there anything you would like to say to readers and your fans?
win: My approach is a reflection of my six years of learning and applying new knowledge, art based on my feelings and interests. I hope you enjoyed the book and thank you for reading this!
