The streaming space has become so crowded that it’s hard to imagine why any company would want to break in right now, but that’s apparently what Chick-fil-A (yes, the fast food chain) is planning to do.
deadline Chick-fil-A is reportedly working with multiple production companies and traditional studios to create multiple original shows for the streaming platform, which will launch later this year. Initially, the restaurant is said to be focusing on family-friendly unscripted programming, including a game show produced by Glassman Media and Sugar23. But in the future, the currently unnamed service may also include original scripted series, animation and content licensed or acquired from other entertainment outlets.
The idea of a company launching an entire streaming service full of feel-good stories just to sell chicken is a bit odd on the surface. But it’s important to remember that Chick-fil-A is owned by the Cathy family, whose independently managed trust was instrumental in the founding of Trilith Studios, the Atlanta-based studio known for its frequent work on Marvel productions famous. Chick-fil-A’s corporate ties to the entertainment industry make this move somewhat easy to understand, but it’s hard to imagine people actually wanting to sign up for another platform that might be filled with ads.
