Intelligence is seeking justice (or revenge) for one of its own.
Yes, we’re still reeling from that intense opening, Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 1 is packed with action, twists, turns, and gory cliffhangers.
Our Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 2 spoilers speculate that this rhythm may continue as Intelligence and Ruzek spring into action on Martel’s behalf.
Let’s break down the spoilers for this issue!
‘Chicago PD’ Season 12 Episode 2 Centers on Ruzek
There’s no doubt that after those jaw-dropping final moments of the premiere, we’ll be getting a Ruzek-centric series.
The premiere showed that Ruzek and Emily Martel have a close relationship. They have been partners for more than a month since she joined the army and went to the academy together.
Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 2 spoilers indicate that the episode will pick up where the first hour left off, with Ruzek still under attack and waiting for backup while Martel bleeds out.
Unfortunately, as Martel and Ruzek assessed their surroundings amid a hail of gunfire, she was shot in the head.
The promo shows Ruzek potentially pulling her closer as things die down, but she’s already dead.
A stunned Ruzek won’t have much time to process this painful loss, as he will immediately hunt down those responsible for Martel’s death.
Ironically, this hour is destined to be a heart-pounding thriller, maintaining the relentless pace set by Voight, but for entirely different reasons.
It’s been a long time since we’ve lost a team member or someone associated with it in such a horrific way, so we can already guess that the writers are going to have a blast in the upcoming episodes.
You don’t delete characters this way, even a brand new one like Martell, unless you want to make it worthwhile.
‘Chicago PD’ Season 12 Episode 2 Could Test or Highlight Ruzek’s Growth
We know Ruzek has always been the hothead of the bunch and the most truly blue of them all.
He often has difficulty reconciling with the negative aspects of his job or law enforcement because they think poorly of his job.
But he also had incredible loyalty and devotion to his fellow law enforcement officers, and an attack on any of them is an attack on him.
This is a personal experience of a dear friend who was killed in the line of duty, just like her former partner.
We know that Ruzek is particularly prone to losing his temper when it comes to the people he loves, and no one can reel him in.
But Ruzek has also made progress over the past few seasons, controlling his temper better, no longer being as reckless as before, and overall becoming the best version of himself.
In many ways, the fatherhood agrees with him, as he learns to consider the future of his daughter and family before making rash and impulsive decisions.
Ruzek’s “True Blue” is full of natural power
Martel’s death was a challenge for him, but if he could make it through getting shot, nearly dying, Kim getting kidnapped, Mike getting kidnapped, and other things like that, then he could get through it too.
But it’s still Ruzek.
Frankly, I’m excited to see how focused he is on taking down those responsible.
Adam Ruzek is about to become a problem and the biggest enemy on the streets until he gets justice.
I eagerly awaited every second of seeing it.
Interestingly, the promo teases Voight, who in similar situations resembles Ruzek on steroids, seemingly taking a calmer approach.
Oh, we can trust him to not let them find out who killed Martel, but he’s also the one who told Ruzek that they weren’t out for revenge.
There’s no way Ruzek would take that from Voight, of all people, but it might indeed be an attempt to salvage the case they’re building and prevent Ruzek from getting completely stuck.
Spoilers indicate that Burgess may still be attending her meetings and won’t be there to support Ruzek through this painful time.
Ruzek may have relied on other intelligence members rather than Burgess
But that means Ruzek will have other unit members to lean on through it all.
We clearly see Atwater in a few stills, trespassing on an attraction, and looking deadly serious in another.
There’s no love like Ruzwater’s brotherhood, and we already know Atwater will have Ruzwater’s back through it all; plus, he seems to have developed an interesting connection with the late Martel himself.
Although Torres does not appear in the promo, he may also provide support.
However, he does appear in the background of one of the photos.
Kiana Cook makes her Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 2 debut
One of the most exciting developments, however, is that Chicago PD season 12 episode 2 spoilers indicate that it will be the debut of Tonya Turner as newcomer Kiana Cook.
Many images depict Kiana and Ruzek riding shotgun during this episode and case.
We see her in the car with him, interrogating suspects next to him, and totally in the heat of the action, based on several photos of the two with guns drawn and ready for all the action and smoke.
When we spoke with showrunner Gwen Sigan, we learned that Kiana is (currently) a patrol officer who lives for action and sounds like a certified action star and badass.
Her job is physically demanding and she doesn’t shy away from any stressful situation that might put her in danger.
She’s the kind of police officer you want to have by your side, fearless, persistent and ruthless.
The Ruzek/Cook matchup will be action-packed and a must-see
We got a glimpse of this in the spoiler images released for Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 2.
Kiana’s debut in the series is going to be intense!
She may be the first patrol officer on the scene, and she and Ruzek may follow any leads there.
Martel’s brief appearance in the series gave us our first Hayley replacement.
She is an excellent detective and has settled into the unit well over the past month.
However, with her passing, Kiana Cooke is also in the mix, which is also interesting.
It’s a completely different energy, and Blood Blue will definitely give us a full picture of what this newbie is capable of and why she’ll stick around for a while.
Voight’s new approach to death and loss makes him more unpredictable
Ruzek will be at the forefront of this moment, but one also wonders how the tragic death of a member of the force will affect Voight.
After his near-death experience, he gained a unique perspective on death, and he is still adjusting to the loss of people close to him in various ways.
Martel’s death feels like another thing that could seriously affect him. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case in the promo, which is interesting.
Regardless of the situation, this will be an explosive moment for the Chicago Police Department, which is already off to a great start to the season.
