We’ll have to wait all summer to find out what happens next on Chicago Med, but at least it won’t be as long as the last hiatus.
Chicago Med season 9 ended with some cliffhangers that left us jaw-dropping, including the question of whether a character would return.
We don’t quite know what season 10 will bring, but one thing is for sure: it will involve a dramatic double helping.
Chicago Med focuses on a group of doctors, but each one has a specific role. When Will Halstead was the Chief Doctor, he was a rebel with a cause, often breaking the rules for the right reasons.
Now that Halsted is gone, the focus of Season 9 shifts to some new characters.
Ripley is a new doctor with a traumatic past, and for a while Marcel has to deal with Zola, a Halstead-like resident who is constantly doing what she thinks is right thing, even if it causes trouble for everyone.
Chicago Med: How do Dr. Ripley and Dr. Ahmed rank so far?
Zola is long gone, but Ripley remains, although he may be in serious trouble, and for nurse in charge Maggie Lockwood, obstetrics and gynecology Hannah Asher and the other doctors at the medical center Say, there’s still a lot of drama to be done.
Let’s take a look at what we know about Chicago Med season 10 so far. (Bookmark this article; we will update as more information becomes available.)
Has Chicago Medical Center renewed its contract?
Yes! Chicago Med is renewed in March 2024, along with two other Chicago shows.
NBC’s decision to renew Med comes as no surprise, as the show regularly receives high ratings and kicked off with One Chicago Wednesdays.
It’s hard to believe that this renewal means Med will be airing its tenth season. Has this series been on the air for almost ten years?
Will “Chicago Med” Season 10 Do Something Special?
Ten years is a long time, but Med hasn’t announced any plans to do anything special for this anniversary. That pales in comparison to Law & Order: SVU’s 26 years on the air, but still.
Number 10 is a milestone and we hope to plan some special episodes.
The cast has been pretty consistent over the past decade, although the return of long-gone characters like Sarah Reese and cameos from people who’ve recently departed wouldn’t be a bad idea.

What happened at the end of Chicago Med season 9?
Chicago Med season 9 ends with Marcel’s heartbreaking story and Ripley’s gripping story.
Ripley spent the season finale trying and failing to get help for an elderly prisoner suffering from dementia.
A guard who accompanied the prisoner to Med Hospital, who was serving a life sentence for murder 50 years ago, was unsympathetic and insisted he was faking his symptoms.
Tests proved this wrong and the man suffered from brain atrophy consistent with dementia. However, the Attorney General tells Sharon (voice-over) that she cannot risk being seen as soft on crime by allowing the man to be transferred to an appropriate facility.
Ripley raged at Charles about this, causing Charles to announce that he was done with him, but that he had more trouble. Troublemaker Pavel is back in the hospital after being beaten with a baseball bat…and Pavel claims Ripley is responsible.
Meanwhile, Marcel is in trouble when he learns that Colin, a young patient in need of a liver transplant, not only died, but the boy’s father committed suicide shortly afterward in Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 12.
Eventually, Sean got into an argument with Archer after Archer disposed of a bag of drugs the patient had swallowed instead of turning them over to the police.
Sean claimed that Archer was better to his patients than he was to him, and he believed that people would not sober up unless they had spent time in prison.
He then storms off, angry at the world and especially his father, leaving Archer unsure of what to do next.

What storylines are in store for Chicago Med Season 10?
Ripley’s story will likely take center stage, at least for the first part of the season.
He cannot work at the medical center until his name is cleared.
There’s no real reason why anyone should believe Pavel, but “Chicago Med” may be using the tired TV trope of everyone taking the word of the untrustworthy over the claims of innocence by others.
Ripley probably won’t do anything to help himself because he thinks his best friend Scully did it.
There may be a plot twist here, and Scully isn’t guilty, even though he keeps talking about how he’s going to “fix” things for Ripley.
This could lead to tension between the friends and conflict between Ripley and Charles. Charles may not believe Pavel, but he’s noncommittal about Ripley, so he probably won’t rush to his defense either.
Meanwhile, Marcel is dismayed by the deaths of these patients. I was hoping he’d stick around, but with the news of Dominic Rains leaving the medical center, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

Marcel has been on the verge of collapse for some time. He also beats himself up for Zola’s bad behavior (assisted by Archer, who should have kept his ridiculous opinions to himself) and micromanaged Reed Tanaka.
The big question is whether we’ll see the end of his story on screen, or if he’s already gone when the show returns.
Which cast members will return for Chicago Med Season 10?
As mentioned above, Dominic Rains is no longer a series regular, and we don’t yet know if he’ll appear in the premiere or if other characters will be explained, as is his role in the finale. Choosing to be absent after a devastating event.
Considering how frustrated Marcel is, his absence makes sense, but we hope he gets to see one final scene to give fans a sense of closure.
Dick Wolf shows have a bad habit of explaining character absences rather than showing them – and while that’s sometimes unavoidable, it would be doubly heartbreaking if Marcel was treated like this .

We may also have Sam Abrams again, Peter from the hospital board, various residents and various guest stars as recurring characters, and various guest stars will play patients.
While Marcel will no longer be a regular on the series, he may appear as an occasional guest if the story demands it.
Who will join Chicago Med Season 10?
It’s not all bad news! We have two new casting announcements.
Sarah Ramos (Parenthood, Bears) has been cast as Dr. Caitlin Lennox. Lenox was described on Deadline as “an emergency room attending physician ready to get Gaffney Medical on track.”
Darren Barnett (“Never Have I Ever,” “Road House”) will play Frost, “a pediatric resident with a secret.”
While this isn’t much to build on, Chicago Med has a history of bringing in new doctors to change the show’s dynamic. This works out well for them and the Chicago Universe franchise as a whole.
New writing team to take over Chicago Med
Chicago Med’s writing team, which had been led by Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider for the past nine years, has resigned.

Instead, Alan McDonald will take over lead writing duties. Macdonald most recently served as showrunner on Amazon Prime’s “Harlan Cobain’s Asylum.”
It’s hard to predict what a new showrunner will mean for “Chicago Med.”
Each writing and production team has their own ideas about which stories to focus on and where the show should go.
Will there be a crossover with one of the other Chicago shows?
Although there was no crossover with other Chicago shows in season nine, there’s no reason that won’t happen in the new season.
In the past, there have been crossover events where one story ran through all three Chicago shows.
This hasn’t happened as much in recent years due to concerns about the coronavirus, but it’s still a possibility as restrictions continue to ease.

Even if there isn’t a full crossover, there may be opportunities for cameos.
It’s disappointing that Chicago PD Season 11 Episode 13 used random doctors to treat Voight and Upton instead of any characters from Med, so we hope they correct this in the new season a little!
When will Chicago Med Season 10 premiere?
Chicago Med Season 10 will be September 25, 2024. This follows the usual pattern of late-September premieres.

Med will continue to air on NBC every Wednesday at 8/7c, with each new episode available on Peacock the day after it airs.
How many episodes are there in Chicago Med Season 10?
If you’re worried that the annoyingly shortened season will become the norm, don’t be.
Chicago Med Season 10 will have 22 episodes to develop characters and storylines, and we won’t need to jump six months from the finale for things to make sense.
Is there a trailer for Chicago Med Season 10?
NBC hasn’t released a trailer for Chicago Med Season 10 yet, but we’ll be posting one as soon as it’s released.
