I’m not sure I’ll be okay when it’s over.
In retrospect, Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 3 gave too many huge hints that something was wrong to expect anything else.
Still, I didn’t expect to be so heartbroken when the end credits rolled.
Héloïse’s sudden transformation is unbelievable but effective
At the beginning of Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 3, Eloise was so distrustful of Hannah that she even accused her of requesting a C-section in order to make more money.
Hannah: Thanks for your help.
Maggie: Like her, I was trying to navigate the healthcare system as a black woman. Most of the time, our worries are dismissed.
Héloïse was tired of many doctors assuming her pain was no big deal, but her distrust also had a racial component.
Eloise has reason to be jaded—her concerns are dismissed by one doctor after another, and she probably feels like Hannah is just another white woman who thinks Eloise can’t possibly understand her own body.
However, after Maggie intervenes, Eloise completely overcomes her distrust of Hannah, and the two even talk on a more personal level, almost like friends.
That’s unrealistic. Given the circumstances, it would have made more sense for Eloise to confide these feelings to Maggie.
Still, the ending requires Héloïse to trust Hannah even more. Death on TV wouldn’t be as powerful if Eloise didn’t believe Hanna when she said she would survive.
That’s what really shocked Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 3.
It’s not just that the woman died before her husband got there, or that her daughter will grow up without a mother.
But after Héloïse finally fully trusts Hanna, Hanna is unable to save her.
The death of a doctor who devastates the doctor is a tired TV trope that has appeared in dozens of medical dramas over the years, but in this case it works because of the irony.
Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 3 touches on some important issues without fully exploring them
Too many doctors ignore women’s health issues. This is something that shouldn’t happen in 2024, but it happens anyway.
When you consider the possibility of racism, these numbers are even worse for black women.
Eloise’s stomachaches and other physical issues were ignored time and time again, which may have contributed to her death in Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 3.
If the problem had been discovered earlier, maybe she wouldn’t have died.
However, I wish Chicago Med had explored this social justice issue more thoroughly.
Med didn’t have much time to think about it, but Maggie deserves more than one comment about how black women are often dismissed and how Eloise died just when things were going well.
If Eloise had asked for a black doctor, the story would have changed completely, but it would have made it clear to her that she felt white women didn’t take her seriously.
This would also give Maggie a bigger role in the story than herself, which would make the story stronger.
What happens to Hannah after Eloise’s tragic end?
As far as the hospital board is concerned, Hannah will be fine.
But I worry about her mental health.
She’s dealing with the loss of this patient and the breakdown of her relationship – and she doesn’t know if Mitch is ready to forgive her or if she’s willing to accept his apology.
That’s a lot for anyone to process, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Hannah’s mental health takes a hit.
Given Hannah’s history with drug addiction, this could lead to serious trouble. I hope I’m wrong, but it looks like she might be relapsing, or at least making a major lapse.
Sharon’s story also highlights the point of misogyny, but do we need death threats?
Sharon’s conversation with Peter in Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 3 also hinted that she deals with misogyny on a daily basis.
Peter, always annoying, didn’t like his lunch with the donor being interrupted to attend to practical business at the hospital, and he surprised Sharon by promising to speak to the board on Sharon’s behalf.
She just had to ask him for help because the board would never listen to her even if she was higher in rank than him.
Sharon said this is because the board only sees things in dollars and cents, but would they treat a male board member that way, especially a male board member with a powerful position at the hospital?
When Sharon beat Peter to the punch by making donors see the consequences of their inaction on the overflow issue, he was so incensed that I wondered if he was the one sending Sharon the death threats.
Peter: A lot of people are angry with you.
Sharon: Get on the list.
It would be an interesting plot twist, but I’m not happy with this death threat story.
I know we live in a crazy time where death threats are so disturbingly common that many people have become desensitized to them, so someone might threaten an administrator over a perceived slight.
That’s not to say I don’t like a good thriller. I like this genre so much that I occasionally write articles like this myself.
But this Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 3 story doesn’t feel like it fits.
This is so much like what would happen on Days of Our Lives, with a mysterious person sending handwritten threatening letters.
It doesn’t feel like organic drama. Also, while it’s great to build up some mystery, the audience has no idea what’s going on or who might have questions about Sharon, and I’m not a fan of these kinds of random mysteries.
Final Thoughts on Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 3
- I’m glad Pavel’s story is over, but could Ripley be any more of a jerk? Even Scully realizes how ridiculous Ripley’s behavior is.
- Dr. Charles’ story illustrates a real problem with artificial intelligence. It’s not that it steals people’s art or writing; It’s designed to please the user, which can distort its responses.
- I love Sarah Ramos, but Dr. Lennox is the latest character on a medical drama to turn everything upside down for the sake of efficiency. That’s enough!
- Does anyone understand what the random patient singing in Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 3 meant? If you do, please explain it in the comments!
- Frost’s Big Secret is anticlimactic. I hope there’s more to his past than just starring in sitcoms as a teenager.
