If you thought legendary game director Hideo Kojima would give us a serious introduction to the upcoming game Death Stranding 2 At this year’s Tokyo Game Show, you’d be wrong. Of course, over the weekend we had the chance to see the upcoming sequel’s impressive photo mode, modeled by Hollywood actors that Kojima scanned and put into the highly anticipated game. But we didn’t just get this: we also got the chance to see (and definitely not buy) the incredible Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Kojima Productions partners with high-end outerwear company Acronym to launch jackets.
I say “definitely not” because the entire collection sold out within minutes of release (at noon on a Sunday), and because you’re probably not the type to spend more than $1,700 on a jacket. (Though, I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that Acronym is like the Cadillac of dripping outerwear.) The jacket, called the J91-WSDB, is modular, meaning it can be modified (it has A removable hood) and a strap that allows you to take it off and carry it like a bag), so you can get several jackets for the price of one very expensive jacket. The jacket is also shown under and over different Acronym designs, such as a spiked outer layer and a sheer paneled jumpsuit. Kojima is the model in some of the photos and it’s a real G move.
The jacket comes in black with orange details or orange with black details, and features several tributes death stranding Hidden in what is admittedly a very cool design. One of the sleeves has the words “DOOMS only” written in a low-key font near the wrist, a giant drawbridge logo (the company Sam Porter Bridges will be working for in the sequel), and another that looks like It’s a little cryptographic biometric keychain that hangs on it.
It’s a shame that both colorways sold out so soon after release. I’m a big fan of video game apparel collaborations that are actually cool and stylish rather than silly and overly simplistic, like a screen-printed tee or a gaudy graphic blazer. ARK/8 and other brands is embodying this movement of giving gamers cool gear, and the Acronym x Kojima Productions collaboration is another great example of how to tap into gaming’s discomfort.
