acolyte Set to conclude on Tuesday night, creator Leslie Hedlund hopes this is the first of many seasons to come. As the show has aired and changed over the past month, one part of the show has always stood out: its costumes. This has always been an area Star Wars once shined, but Acolyte’s Outfit stands out as the first show to be set in the Republic, having been comprised of books and comics for the past five years.

Various costumes for the show were designed by Jennifer L. Bryan, whose previous work includes breaking Bad and Stop and get on fire. in a new blog Star Wars’ On her website, she details the process of creating costumes for the series’ actors. Add the previous painting method Star Wars Brian and her team also looked to media for inspiration, namely Trisha Big’s prequel costumes, and also looked at the costumes of real-world warriors. Take Osha, played by Amandla Stenberg, whose primary costume is a hybrid of flight suit and mechanic’s overalls, with a color palette inspired by what soldiers wore during the Vietnam War .

As for Osha’s sister Mae, her designs are inspired by the warrior tribes of East and North Africa, as well as various empires throughout Asian and European history. While May’s costume was pieced together from things she’d found over the years, Brian felt it “needed to look like a combination of warriors from different eras of history, rather than being specific to any one culture.” On the chest The bamboo strips are inspired by warriors, while the chain mail for the arms and cloak come from Byzantine knights and Roman gladiators. Chain armor is not commonly seen in Star Wars, But she believes it has “historic importance” as a means of conservation. Purple is her main color because it is a “memory color” that evokes memories of her family.

Some of the inspiration for their costumes becomes quickly apparent (e.g. course Qimir’s pull on Vader and Kylo Ren), while others are more surprising. For example, Leia’s white gown was inspired by Indara’s ivory color, and the layers of her costume were specifically crafted to reflect her action scenes. This also applies to Qimir, whose fabrics and layers had to be “flexible and very, very sporty.” According to Bryan, Chimere’s hand-carved Cortosis glove was particularly popular because it was “very out of the box and very different from everything that comes with the piece.”

Acolyte’s The season finale will air on Disney+ on Tuesday, July 16. While we’ve already posted photos of the main cast, there’s even more on Bryan’s blog, which also dives into the costumes of characters like Sol, Mother Aniseya, and Yor.
