Eiji and Rin are both at very interesting points in their lives. Both are experiencing their first real relationship while also operating in different aspects of their lives. Eiji is now in college and dating people who seem more mature, but he still has that fun, goofy spark. Eiji hasn’t changed, so people don’t view him in a romantic light, although that’s what Rin finds so attractive about him. I don’t think Rin has anything to worry about, although it would be interesting to explore more of the girl who confessed her love to Eiji. I’m surprised this plot point wasn’t explored at all. This was an opportunity to choreograph a play during Rin’s visit to campus.
This may be the first time the show has attempted to balance the relationship between our protagonists with a genuine passion for the performing arts. Acting is always part of the show, but it’s just the backdrop to the relationship. Here it tries to stand on its own. Eiji has yet to set any specific goals for his future. At the same time, Rin wants to be an actor and has a talent for it. The fact that she was able to impress people who were older and more experienced than she was suggests that she might have the opportunity for a very lucrative career. This episode plants the seeds of a potential overall conflict for these final episodes.
The episode didn’t provide a lot of laughs, and surprisingly, the cute flirtatious moments that defined the series took a back seat. However, that’s only because the show seems to be making space for other discussions. Despite the overall presentation, pseudo harem It’s trying to be something, and I respect that. It’s about facing your insecurities, trusting others and your abilities, and growing in your own unique way.
