Here, our series attempts to go back to square one. While I was a little worried that we’d be sidestepping the abrupt end to last week’s episode since we started this one with a completely separate sketch, it’s clear what the message of this week’s episode is leaning toward. The premise is pseudo harem Has many uses. It’s a cute joke that unites our two protagonists while showcasing Rin’s abilities as an actor. As they become closer, we start to see less and less of the different personalities she takes on over time because she doesn’t need them anymore. At least, that’s what I initially thought. While she doesn’t seem to need them to deal with her awkwardness or confidence issues, Rin still wants to rely on them to express herself. The different sides of her personality and intimate details that she likes to show are aspects of herself.
Eiji comes off as noble when he declares how much he wants to prioritize her and that she doesn’t need to stop pretending, but that’s not what she wants to hear. Rin considers any rejection of her different personalities to be a rejection of part of herself. This leads to the premise of the episode, which is her trying to win Eiji back over in different ways. This is probably the best use pseudo harem since the show’s original inception. The idea of Rin taking more action to make Eiji love her more is cute. It’s also great to see the antics outside of school.
While I like the concept, the execution is a little clunky. We don’t get to see all the different personalities Rin has accumulated while I feel like Rin is capable of that. The pace feels extremely slow. I also think this plot point could have been built up to a lot more. If we had more of the different characters Rin brought up in the past five episodes, I could maybe understand why it would be harder to part with them. They’re still young and not the most mature of the duo, but this would be a good episode for Rin to mature, much like Eiji does once she enters college.
pseudo harem Trying to say something with its premise and make the most of it when it’s no longer needed. It already does more than most other romantic comedies today. Despite my complaints, the resolution and dialogue were still lovely. I hope this show doesn’t stumble as it crosses the finish line.
