refuge There are two new books this year, and the protagonists are both very evil. New York CC’24, The publisher has Colin Howell and Calvin Scott There is something about them at hand.
Read more about both books below:
Fusing neo-noir and supernatural, Godfather of Hell It tells the story of a mob enforcer who, rather than suffer eternal damnation for his sins, does his best to control Hell. The first issue is written by a New York Times bestseller Calvin Scott (Star Wars: The High Republic, Shadow Service) Illustrated by Bram Stoker Award-winning artist Pius Barker (Eat the Rich, The Magicians), the series, which premieres in October 2024, will also feature artwork from a number of other artists, such as Nathan Gooden (brutal), Joshua Hixon (abnormal), Chris Sheehan (slaughterhouse), Jack Phillips (Destroy all monsters), Colin Howell (Lilith), and Connor Boyle (Judge Dredd).
Lilith is an immortal being expelled from her home, a dimensional plane very similar to the human conception of Hell. She posed as a model on Earth and secretly preyed on humans. That is, until she meets Penelope, a cute bookstore owner with a book that might hold the secret to returning Lilith to her home dimension. If only this mismatched pair hadn’t fallen in love first!
I chatted with Scott and Howell at the show.
Howell: I am a writer and artist Lilithwhich is basically about this distant monster who finds love in the most unexpected person. She is a very, very lonely person until she finds someone who can help her get home. This is a story about how she found love and family. It’s also filled with murder, bloody horror, and sexy men and sexy women. It’s gothic. if you see jennifer body And thinking that Jennifer did nothing wrong, this book is for you.
Diana Destito: Do you like mixing genres? Isn’t this pure horror, pure comedy, pure romance?
Howell: when i first started writing LilithI thought at the time, this is too serious. It doesn’t feel right. So I started making it more interesting, and then it started becoming more interesting and people loved it. I balanced the dark horror stuff with a silly comedy. Just something I like to play…I don’t want it to get heavy and then people get frustrated. I hope they really like her. She is not evil. I can tell you.
Scott: exist godfather of hell, Very similar. It’s a mashup of genres. This is a gangster movie directed by Lucifer. It’s the story of a mob enforcer and debt collector who finds himself on the wrong side of his boss in a drive-by shooting. He ended up going to hell, and then he walked away and it was the best job opportunity I’ve ever had. Because hell is one big farce.
DESTITO: I’ve read two of the first issues and they were interesting. They’re different, but they all have that horror and humor. There’s levity, your protagonist isn’t a good guy, but you kind of like them.
Scott: Yes. The first thing you see him do is throw people out of windows.
Howell: I also loved that your character became a loan shark from hell. I really like this idea.
DESTITO: Is there anything else you’re working on?
Scott: Ahem, shadow service.
Howell: We need to get it done. It just sat there, ending on a cliffhanger, and I thought, wait, that’s not how this is supposed to go.
Scott: I know how it ends.
Howell: I know you know! This is killing me.
DESTITO: How was it? work together shadow service?
Scott: The first thing we cooperate with is Star Wars. Briefly.
Howell: Yes, briefly introduce Vader’s Castle and the story of young Han Solo.
Scott: I voted shadow service arrive Adrian [Wassel] At the shelter, he immediately said Colin’s name and I was like, yes! Why didn’t I think of this? The more we deal with a problem, the scarier and more demonic it becomes. Then I threw in a dragon.
Howell: Oh yes. He was like I’m sorry about this. I wrote that into the script. I’m like, no you’re not!
Scott: Yes. I mean, it’s another mashup of genres. there are many james bond there and mission impossibledeparting from London to Rome. Various other places.
DESTITO: If you could have any character from comics, cartoons, video games, or movies appear as a guest star in your current book, who would it be?
Howell: I’m gonna get rid of my current brain rot right now because see Deadpool and Wolverine Recently I returned to Miracle fandom. After being away for so many years, after The Avengers ended, I came back and oh my God. This is Hugh Jackman, shirtless.
DESTITO: Yes, please.
Howell: I was very interested in that movie. I haven’t had so much fun with a Marvel movie since the first Avengers movie. So I’m guessing it’s Wolverine who’s teaming up with Lilith. Because they are all immortal. Technically, it was impossible for her to die at human hands. She could only die of her own species. There’s a little hint there, a little tidbit. But I could imagine a fight breaking out and Logan going off, what the hell… Of course, in true Logan style, he’d probably beat her up. He’s fucked every chick in the Marvel Universe.
destiny: Every one.
Scott: He was still lying on the bed looking at the photos.
destiny: Where is your book?
Scott: Well, we’ve only seen one side of Hell, so I think it’s Pyramid Head.
destiny: I love Silent Hill.
Howell: I’m still praying for another good movie because the first one was great. But the last one, why were there Puritans?
