Monster Hunter: Wild seems to be skipping portable gaming platforms (including Nintendo Switch) due to technical limitations of the hardware. This was stated during a stakeholder meeting in response to a question about the game’s absence from consoles such as the Nintendo Switch.
The response is as follows: “One of the concepts we have integrated into this game is to maximize the use of the latest technology to depict the world of Monster Hunter. To this end, platforms that can realize this concept are currently being developed.” PlayStation 5, Xbox We hope you can look forward to more comprehensive details on these concepts and themes as we release game information on Series X|S and PC.

All in all, it’s a smart line of reasoning, and many other companies have tried to bring their franchises to Switch in the past, with little success. Just look at the Switch port of Mortal Kombat 1 for one of the more interesting examples of technological limitations getting in the way of fun times. The console’s strength was never its power, or the graphical fidelity it was capable of pushing, but rather its core arsenal of high-quality Hitman games. If bringing Monster Hunter Wild to Switch means the game will get worse, then maybe we’re better off.
Maybe that will change with the arrival of the Switch 2, but even then the console is unlikely to match the hardware push from other companies like Microsoft or Sony. Nintendo is playing a different ball game! So while you can’t play Wilds on Switch, I’m sure there will be a lot of other cool games out there. Plus, with all of the exclusive games Nintendo stocks, you can play a lot of games on the Switch that you can’t play anywhere else.
Let us know how you feel about this! Do you think it’s a good idea for publishers and developers to skip the Switch, or should low-power ports be prioritized?
