Brooklyn Independent Comic Con (BICS) will host a two-day event in 2025.
“Due to BICS’s rapid growth and community response, we are excited to announce that next year’s event will be spread over two days,” BICS event director Aynsley Leonardis said in a statement.
Entering its fourth year, BICS will vividly showcase local New York talent, The Beat found that out during an outing there this year. The showcase began in 2022 with 50 tables, but has grown to more than 200 booths this year through 2024 under the direction of organizer St. Mark’s Comics in City of Industry.
“By 2023, we have 260 vendors at 200 tables and we’re having to turn people away,” said Mitch Cutler, co-owner of St. Mark’s Comics . A poll of vendors found that more than 75% of respondents liked the two-day idea.
With a large number of art schools and even a few comic book publishers, New York remains a thriving city for comics and cartoonists. Between NYCC gargantua, the more selective MoCCA (also held in the spring), and FlameCon in August, there are a few shows, but there seems to be room for more, especially one aimed at locals, because local People are often unable to attend NYCC to meet the demand for Artist Alley tables.
BICS organizers plan to include groups in 2025, with supplier applications opening on January 7 and more details to be announced in the coming months.
